How your work would contribute to our organization and the Twin Cities region: The Fare Collections Supervisor maintains and ensures the collection of all Metro Transit bus cash fare revenue and revenue-ridership data, including the direct supervision of Vault Pullers. Work is primarily performed in a garage setting where you will occasionally be required to work near moving parts or equipment as well as being frequently exposed to fumes, particles and loud noises. This position also requires you to lift up to forty-five (45) pounds on a frequent basis during an average eight-hour shift and occasionally push mobile equipment weighing up to 2,000 pounds. *This recruitment will establish a six (6) month Eligibility List for current and future vacancies.

What you would do in this job

Plans, assigns, reviews, and monitors the work of a staff of 10 Fare-Collections Specialists located at five Metro Transit facilities engaged in gathering revenue and data from Fare Collection equipment and securing them to a FC depository. Perform inspections and monitor all Fare Collection facilities/equipment to observe compliance with established Council procedures and regulations and to provide expedient resolution of operational and fare collection problems, including scheduling of maintenance. Ensure safe collection and transportation of Council revenues via an armored service provider as well as reviewing/preparing daily activity reports to ensure a secure and accurate collections process. Ensure all computer and GFI operating systems are operational and accurate in addition to adherence of security and surveillance procedures Monitor compliance to Council and departmental policies and procedures and remediate and provide directions whenever necessary. Control transfer inventory levels, check usage trends and prepare requisition documents to procure bus transfer stock, uniforms, and operating supplies as needed for the efficient operation of Fare Collections activities. Make recommendations regarding discipline/ rewarding of subordinates; authorize leave and overtime; evaluate employee performance and participates in the hiring progress by conducting interviews and making hiring recommendations. Developing a daily strategy to ensure all at risk data is retrieved from FC equipment on board buses; perform audits to ensure transfer levels on board buses are optimal. Preparation of daily statistical reports indicating Fare Collections performance and resource usage and availability. Act as liaison to other departments and business partners to provide for an efficient regional bus transportation system and complete inter-departmental work orders as needed. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements:
Any of the following combinations of completed education (in business management, operations management, or closely related field) and experience in business management, operations management, transit/public safety or closely related areas with at least one (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience:
- High school diploma/GED with six (6) years of experience AND at least one (1) year of experience in management, supervision or leadership.
- Associate degree with four (4) years of experience AND at least one (1) year of experience in management, supervision or leadership.
- Bachelor's degree or higher with two (2) years of experience AND at least one (1) year of experience in management, supervision or leadership.
Metropolitan Council Employees Only: Successful completion of any one of the following four Metropolitan Council Leadership/Supervisory training programs will substitute for lead/supervisory experience. You must attach your certificate(s) as proof of completion of the program to your application. Only completion of one of the four programs listed below will substitute credit (6 months or 1 year) for lead/supervisory experience.
Metro Transit Leadership Academy = 1 year Project Management Development Program (12-month session) = 1 year Project Management Development Program (6-month session) = 6 months Four Learning Institute Certificates - You must obtain all four certificates listed below to receive credit for 6 months supervisory experience.
- Leading Self-Personal Effectiveness Certificate
- Leading Self-Communication Certificate
- Leading Self-Business Skills Certificate
- Leading Others-Preparing for Supervisor Certificate
Licensure Requirement:
- Must have a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record per Metro Transit standards.
Physical Requirements:
Occasionally required to stand/walk for long periods and sit. Frequently required to speak, hear, read, and write. Position has vision requirements (close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus). Position is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects and reach with hands and arms. Position is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and turn, twist, bend at waist. Occasionally required to climb or balance. Must be able to occasionally lift/carry/push/pull objects from 10 to 50 pounds.
What additional skills and experience would be helpful in the job (desired qualifications):
- Intermediate skill in Excel and Word including generating financial and statistical reports.
- Project management - Plan and lead projects to successful completion.
- Asset protection and security monitoring, identify areas of security concerns.
- Problem/conflict resolution skills and techniques particularly supervising in a union environment.
What knowledge, skills and abilities you should have within the first six (6) months on the job:
- Knowledge of management practices, principles of supervision, performance management and ability to perform coaching, counseling, mentoring, staff development, training, performance improvement, and discipline.
- Skill in providing effective work direction to staff.
- Basic technical skills in looking at mechanical fare collection equipment and having an understanding of how/why it would have malfunctioned, in order to coordinate repairs.
- Communicates clearly and effectively both orally and in writing to all levels of people inside and outside the organization, including possessing good grammar, voice and diction.
- Knowledge of computer operation and software applications, including skill in basic word processing, spreadsheet applications, and Windows operating system.
- Must have analytical, detail-orientation, and math skills to create and analyze reports.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities/priorities simultaneously.
- Problem analysis and resolution skills.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment like facsimile, printer, and copier.

Transit Managers and Supervisors Association (TMSA) /Grade G FLSA Status: Exempt Safety Sensitive: Yes. Subject to random DOT drug tests.
What your work environment would be:
Work is performed in a standard warehouse environment and occasionally in a normal office environment. However, the position may require occasional in-state travel to various garages. Work is performed in the evenings/late nights. Position may result in exposure to moving parts or equipment, fumes, airborne particles, loud noise, vibrations and humid conditions.
