Job Summary:

This job will mainly be involved in clinical diagnosis, clinical trials, and research studies for type 1 diabetes. Islet autoantibodies are currently the most reliable biomarkers for prediction and diagnosis for type 1 diabetes. We are the NIH designated autoantibody and HLA reference laboratory for type 1 diabetes serving for multiple NIH sponsored national and international diabetes clinical trials as well as multiple institutional and industry sponsored clinical trials. We are also the CLIA and CAP certified laboratory serving for clinical diagnosis for type 1 diabetes for multiple hospitals/clinics across the country including the Children's Hospital and University Hospital in this campus and also our own Barbara Davis Center. This job will require to routinely handle these clinical and research human blood samples, perform the assays, and report the results.
- Receive and process human serum samples of clinical diagnosis and clinical researches.
- Perform multiplex ECL autoantibody assays for a particular Colorado general population screening study (ASK study).
- Perform the radio-binding autoantibody assays for clinical diagnostic and research samples.
- Analyze the data and assist the lab manager to report the results.
- cDNA-plasmid cloning and amplification needed for autoantibody assays.
- Assist lab supervisor and PI to improve current assays and to develop new assays.
Key Responsibilities / Duties:
- This PRA will work in Islet Autoantibody/HLA Core Laboratory and is reported to lab manager and lab PI.
- Collaborate with and support Principal Investigators (PI) and lab manager with laboratory and research functions
- Utilize a variety of laboratory assay techniques required for clinical and research projects
- Prepare lab for daily operations, including receiving, processing, and organizing samples from internal and outside.
- Routinely perform multiplex electrochemiluminescence assays of autoantibodies for the ASK clinical trial.
- Perform radio-binding assays of islet autoantibodies and other autoantibodies for clinical and research samples.
- Perform the HLA typing for clinical and research studies
- Assay data analysis, presentation, and result report.
- Assist lab supervisor and PI to improve current assays and to develop new assays.
- Dispose of laboratory materials and samples using well established guidelines and instructions.
- cDNA-plasmid cloning and amplification.
- Assist the lab quality-control officer in the review and implementation of lab support policies, practices and programs to meet CLIA and CAP needs.
- Independently and creatively identify laboratory solutions
- Independently Review, develop and implement new or modified laboratory techniques.
- Assist PI and Team leader with creation and implementation of processes and procedures and quality improvement initiatives.
- Assist and train junior team members

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
- 2 years professional level research experience.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Preferred Qualifications:
- Doctoral degree preferred
- 5 years professional experience preferred

Anticipated Pay Range:
|
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $50,357 - $64,054 The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck.
