Summary

The Project Controls Analyst provides essential support to project managers by developing and maintaining monthly, annual, and long-range project forecasts. This role monitors project schedules and cost performance to ensure alignment with established goals and timelines.

The analyst collaborates with project managers and stakeholders to address delays or deviations, helping keep projects on track through proactive issue resolution. By identifying risks and implementing corrective actions at both the project and program levels, the Project Controls Analyst plays a key role in ensuring successful project execution and delivery.

Minimum Requirements

  • A four-year Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics or other job-related field from an accredited college or university plus two (2) years of experience in financial analysis, accounting, data analysis and/or finance-related positions.
  • In lieu of bachelors degree, combination of college coursework and/or experience in financial analysis, accounting, data analysis and/or finance-related positions equaling six (6) years.


Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:



  • Project management experience.
  • Knowledge of Project Management Institute project controls principles.
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Project Management System (EPMS) and Power Plan.
  • Knowledge of long-range forecast process.

Major Accountabilities

1) Supports the monthly accounting process by preparing monthly accruals, variance explanations and completing stage gate reviews including budget estimates and forecasts. Analyzes financial data for projects and programs to ensure accuracy. Prepares journal voucher (JV) requests for accounting.

2) Manages forecast, variance and project projection process. Monitors and tracks project schedules to ensure they are aligned with forecasts/budget and in-service dates. Assists in reviewing, reconciling and forecasting materials.

3) Prepares information for monthly capital approval board. Prepares information for Portfolio Health meetings. Ensures project governance and control steps are followed.

4) Prepares data, reports, metrics and analysis at project and program level. Prepares data and reports as needed for Management and stakeholders.

5) Performs purchase order (PO), material, contractor tracking, reconciling and forecasting activities for low to medium projects. Reviews vendor billing accuracy.

6) Identifies cost saving and efficiency opportunities.

Hybrid: Employees in hybrid roles work both in their home offices (virtually) and alongside their colleagues (in person).

In order for employees to build strong relationships and to promote meaningful in-person interactions, hybrid employees are expected to work about 40% of their time in-person at an APS or other (non-home office) location.

*Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).

*Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.
