Overview

Advanced Technologies and Laboratories (ATL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is hiring for a Systems Engineer in Richland, WA.

This position will support Navarro-ATL. Navarro-ATL is located in Richland, WA and operates, manages, and maintains the 222-S Laboratory Complex for the Department of Energy. Navarro-ATL members are Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. (Oak Ridge, TN), and Advanced Technologies and Laboratories International (Gaithersburg, MD).

Navarro-ATL seeks a System Engineer directly supporting the 222-S Laboratory Chief Engineer and collaborating with established Design Authorities. Work activities center on the development and implementation of a comprehensive Condition Assessment program for the 222-S Laboratory enterprise. The laboratory is working toward a 24/7 mission demand to support Hanford cleanup, but downtime due to failure of critical infrastructure systems will not be acceptable. The successful candidate will develop a program to monitor and track the physical and functional condition of all critical infrastructure systems and will work with Design Authority engineers to ensure systems are maintained fully operational, critical spare parts inventories are adequate and complete, and system overhauls or replacements are planned well in advance of degraded performance or failure. This will include a variety of engineering duties focused on maintaining and periodically reporting on the status of mission critical systems at the 222-S Laboratory Complex at the DOE Hanford, WA, site, so that improvements may be planned and executed to maintain efficient and prolonged operations of plant systems and components.

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities

Coordinate in a multi-disciplinary fashion with established Design Authorities for multiple plant systems to maintain satisfactory or improve system performance, reliability, and safety by using up-to-date information about system configuration, system health, asset condition, and performance trends.

Support system engineering activities including development and maintenance of program for system health and condition assessment reporting in conjunction with assigned Design Authorities for multiple systems across the 222-S Laboratory complex.

Collaborating with assigned Design Authorities, evaluate and report on system performance, including:

Perform regular reviews of logs, system parameters, and work request histories and analyze trends for mission critical plant systems.
  • Observe system operation and perform periodic system walk-downs to maintain a current awareness of system condition and performance.
  • Identify problems (especially recurring ones) with systems and system components and support appropriate corrective actions to achieve resolution.
  • Evaluate system performance/trends to identify the need for improving overall efficiency and reliability.
  • Prepare periodic system health and condition assessment reports
  • Accumulate, review, and initiate action to improve system performance based on information derived from reports and trends.
  • Monitor activities on system components to identify those that contribute to system unavailability and make recommendations for improvements. (e.g. availability of critical spare parts).
  • Recommend appropriate priority for work affecting assigned system health and ensure this priority is understood.
