Position description

The UCSB Beyerlein lab is seeking a qualified individual for an open, full-time, one-year long position with an anticipated start date in September or October 2025. The lab (PI: Beyerlein) is looking for a hardworking, motivated individual who is passionate about dislocation modeling. Specifically, we are looking for an individual with existing phase field dislocation dynamics experience to study high performance alloys in elevated temperatures.

The Specialist will report to Professor Beyerlein. They will be primarily responsible for the simulation of dislocations using computational methods available in the Beyerlein lab.. Additionally, they will support literature reviews,simulation design, data generation, numerical data analysis, integration with experimental tests, presentations, paper writing, and grant writing. The position will include opportunities for learning new skills, and mentoring graduate research assistants. We hope that this position will prepare someone well for a research career as a materials scientist.

Candidates must be able to work both independently and in collaboration with others. The Specialist will work to build and support the lab community.


Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanics, or Materials Science and Engineering or equivalent field of study

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)

At least 40 hours of hands-on experience in discrete dislocation dynamics simulations.
