Job Summary

Chartwells Higher Ed (a Compass Group company) is hiring a Director of Operations! In this leadership role, you will manage the food service operations on the campus of MICHIGAN TECH.

The campus is part of Michigan's most beautiful region in the Upper Peninsula and offers the opportunity for career growth. You will lead and manage a large multi-unit dining account and staff operations. You will be responsible for managing client relations, along with ensuring that the food offered to the customers is of superior quality.

Houghton is a charming city with a strong connection to nature, mining history, and education. Its location in the picturesque Upper Peninsula makes it a desirable destination for outdoor adventurers and those interested in exploring Michigan's heritage. This lovely city hosts various cultural events and festivals throughout the year, celebrating local traditions, arts, and music. Houghton serves as a gateway to Isle Royale National Park, a remote and pristine wilderness area in Lake Superior. The park is accessible by ferry from Houghton during the beautiful summer months. Houghton, MI, may be a small town, but it has a surprisingly diverse and vibrant foodie scene, especially for those who love local flavors and a bit of adventure in their meals. Houghton has a thriving craft beer culture. Many of the local breweries and restaurants pair great food with locally brewed beers. Your team is responsible for maintaining established costs and quality standards so as to ensure superior service and maximize profits. To reach these goals, you will handle the following:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulates budgets and plans for the operation
  • Maintains and implements standards of quality in all areas of the foodservice operation
  • Ensures compliance with all regional and account programs and policies
  • Accountable for accurate reporting for the account

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS degree preferred
  • Five years of foodservice management experience required
  • Higher Education experience in board and retail operations is required
  • Knowledge of P&L accountability and contract-managed service experience is required
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
