The Sales Tax Supervisor is responsible for providing Divisional leadership and guidance for daily activities related to assuring customers are taxed properly and customer payment / invoicing disputes are resolved to ensure an accurate reflection of customers' receivable balance. Functions of the department include ensuring tax exemptions are properly documented, customer tax issues are resolved, and use tax is properly applied.
In particular you will:
Provides leadership and direction to Sales & Use Tax team: Develops and conducts training programs to new and existing employees within the tax department, including onboarding of associates, and technical and legal training. Provides guidance and oversight of staff activities related to the research and resolution of customer tax disputes; ensure follow-through / resolution of the dispute root cause. Develops staff through goal-setting, evaluations, feedback, discipline and on-going coaching to ensure activities are performed within department and Company policy. Creates, measures, and monitors receivable performance, including monthly metrics and provides support / reporting to the Division Controller & CFO. Analyzes, reviews, and makes determinations on how to properly integrate newly acquired businesses into the Company's sales tax function. Responsible for managing the team's daily functions to relate to customer taxability. Daily functions include: Utilizes research tools and critical thinking to determine the proper taxability of customers and transactions. Research, understand, interpret and communicate sales and use tax laws to internal and external customers. Supports Corporate Tax Department in managing customer tax exceptions in sales tax software, which will involve special setups of select item customers that do not follow a standard tax category. Provides support for sales tax audits. Reviews customer transactions generated by the branch stores which will require daily oversight through the SAP billing block report and SAP tax override report. Assist branches to resolve tax issues for daily blocks and daily tax overrides. Reviews and processes tax only credit invoice requests generated by the branch stores and credit specialists for short pays on invoices due to sales taxes. Reviews and approves exemption certificates provided by customers to substantiate customer exemptions. Prioritizes workload to ensure disputes are resolved as efficiently and accurately as possible Proactively interact with internal and external customers to reduce the amount of new disputes. Works with other Division tax teams on cross Divisional customers and best practices. Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Are you a MATCH?
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field preferred. In lieu of degree requirement, four additional years of sales tax related experience may be considered. Requires three (3) years of prior sales tax and customer relations experience in positions of increasing responsibility. Experience with SAP, Vertex or other sales tax software is a plus. Ability to manage multiple priorities and juggle between divisional, local and corporate management and demands. Intermediate computer skills (Google Suite, Microsoft Excel). Ability to handle difficult situations diplomatically and professionally. Ability to analyze and disseminate large amounts of data. Exhibits customer focused behavior such as building positive relationships and strives to understand customer's needs, both internal and external. Excellent analytical and creative problem solving skills with the ability to make independent decisions based on investigation and judgment and ability to discern when to escalate issues. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to adjust communication methods based on customer situations. A positive approach and willingness to learn coupled with the ability to work in a team environment. Ability to integrate new technologies into day-to-day operations.
