SUMMARY Responsible for the general maintenance of a passenger vessel and assisting as a member of the vessel crew.
Responsibilities
ESEENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Works with Captain to ensure that all equipment is maintained in accordance with required phase maintenance schedules, and discrepancies are corrected as soon as possible;
- Assists contracted maintenance personnel in troubleshooting the nature/repair of major mechanical or other vessel problems.
- Maintains vessel appearance and cleanliness to the highest standards.
- Functions as one of the key crew members when instituting emergency procedures, following the emergency checklist and explaining any deviation from the latter; applies knowledge of and explains the first actions to take in the event of man overboard and vessel flooding.
- Assists with training crew members during periodic drills.
- Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications
NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of and ability to apply emergency and fire regulations, emergency procedures, emergency equipment, and systems applicable to vessel operation.
- Knowledge of proper vessel managing and docking.
- Basic knowledge of vessel maintenance.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to work varied shift hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Ability to work directly with the public, providing information and assistance on a daily basis.
- Ability to perform strenuous work on a passenger vessel.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and up to 80 pounds on an occasional basis
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education and experience)
- High school diploma or equivalent, AND
- One (1) to two (2) years of maritime industry experience including vessel maintenance, AND
- Current CPR and first aid certificates; AND
- A valid Driver's license with an acceptable driving record; AND
- Must successfully pass a background check and drug testing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (education and experience)
- Mechanical skills and understanding of marine maintenance practices are preferred.
- Previous experience on a passenger vessel.
