Design Manager

We are currently seeking a Design Manager to join our team in our Tempe, Arizona office.

Essential Functions



  • Using SFP's Design Review Form, reviews and verifies designs and calculations before submittal.
  • Assigns projects to designers based on workload demand and maintains design calendar.
  • Ensures that field checks are completed and that projects are listed for material accurately and on time.
  • Participate in design kick-off and WPR meetings.
  • In conjunction with the SFP technology manager, maintaining design systems and software.
  • Helps coordinate material delivery to job sites.
  • Assist sales/estimating personnel in estimating design hours for bids.
  • Assist design personnel in preparation for NICET tests and correspondence courses.
  • Train designers and design trainees in all applicable aspects of fire protection design.
  • Maintain design department supplies.
  • Design automatic sprinkler systems including fire pumps, tanks, wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge systems using working knowledge of fire sprinkler codes.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers professionally.
  • Review all design employees per company policy.
  • Understand and follow the SFP' Safety program, SDS book, Hazardous communication program, policies, and procedures.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


Job Minimum Requirements

10 years of experience as a Fire Sprinkler Designer/Layout Technician or in any occupation for which experience is gained. Experience must include:



  • 10 years of experience in using AutoCAD, SprinkCAD, AutoSprink, HydraCAD, or other Fire Sprinkler Design Software;
  • 10 years of experience in design in construction industry, including reading/creating blueprints (i.e. architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural, and civil drawings);
  • 10 years of experience in performing hydraulic systems analysis.
  • 5 years of experience in using Building Information Modeling (BIM) with NavisWorks or Revit Design Coordination Software.
  • Must possess a valid NICET Level IV Certification in Water-Based Fire Sprinkler Layout
  • Must be able to comply with SFP's Drug and Alcohol Policy and Background screening.
  • Will accept any equivalent combination of education and experience.
