Career Services Manager
This position is an on-campus, full-time, 12-month appointment based in Champaign, Illinois covered by the Professional Support Staff (PSS) Union with an annual salary of $55,166.69.

The Career Services Manager is
responsible for providing career planning and job search services to students,
alumni, and District 505 residents/community; identifying the recruitment needs
of local employers and fostering connections with job seekers; and developing
and executing short-, medium-, and long-term strategies for developing career
resources throughout Parkland.
The Career Services Manager appointment on a schedule established by the
Director of Advising Services. The position involves frequent handling of
confidential information and records and leadership across campus units engaged
in career efforts. The Career Services Manager must be able to work
independently as well as on a team, make sound counseling decisions, and
accurately prioritize tasks.

Essential Job Functions:
Individualized career support to
students, alumni, and community members
- Provide career, job search, internship, and workforce readiness advising to students, alumni, and District 505 residents; identify and understand the various needs unique to individuals and diverse populations.
- Select, administer, and interpret career assessment instruments; record assessment findings into student information system to assist faculty and staff with advising students.
- Maintain and promote the resume and communication components of the College's digital job board service; approve employer registrations; run reports to identify opportunities for assessment and continuous improvement.
- Teach proper resume, interviewing, and other job search techniques to Parkland College students and District 505 residents; collaborate with faculty and the Director to support resume-writing and mock interview assignments.
- Provide LinkedIn and LinkedIn Learning expertise and training for students and District 505 residents.
- Develop and deliver on campus career workshops and participate in job fairs hosted by academic departments.
- Develop and maintain social media content including Instagram and YouTube video resources.
Liaison to employers
and community
- Establish networks with community resources to assist clients with unique needs; identify opportunities to expand relationships with academic/non-academic departments, student clubs, and organizations on campus.
- Develop relationships with companies and organizations that may offer employment opportunities to Parkland College students and alumni; serve as a liaison between employers, students, and departments to identify and develop career-related programs and initiatives that support the career competencies of students and community members.
- Manage, plan, and execute college career fairs. Organize employer information recruitment tables, including communication with employers, logistical planning, and marketing efforts. Provide career support at events held by academic departments and other campus units.
- Follow established recruitment policies and suggest changes to the Director as needed; ensure that employers who participate in on-campus interviewing and recruitment are aware of and abide by policies.
Leadership and support
for Parkland career needs
- Identify the career assessment needs of students and campus stakeholders to evaluate the effectiveness of digital assessment tools; research and implement new and enhanced services as needed and provide training on the use of career assessment instruments to campus users such as advisors, faculty, and staff.
- Collaborate with academic success advisors under the academic advising model: provide training to advisors specializing in academic areas of interest (AOI) to assist undecided students in exploring their career and academic interests and pathways; collaborate with advisors and academic departments to conduct research on career outlooks and needs based on academic programs.
- Acquire and demonstrate knowledge of labor market trends, educational requirements and job search resources to provide accurate information to the District 505 community.
- Conduct research on industry trends and best practices to ensure that career services remain current and effective.
- Maintain knowledge of Parkland's career and transfer programs to assist with potential student enrollment opportunities and connecting prospective and current students to relevant faculty and staff.
Office
responsibilities
- Develop and implement a strategic plan for Career Services that aligns with the mission, vision, and values of Parkland College and the division of Counseling Services. Set and implement career advising goals and objectives, identify learning outcomes, analyze data, and use results to guide decision making.
- Hire, train, and supervise part-time staff and student employees.
- Collaborate with the Director for budget and financial planning, including managing spending and resource allocation.
- Stay current with changes in policies, degree programs and training opportunities.
- Collaborate with Marketing and Public Relations to deliver messages in alignment with Parkland's institutional brand.
- Serve as web liaison for Career Services, create website content, and ensure that the website is up to date with relevant career-related information.
- Respond to questions and forward inquiries to relevant staff; assist with walk-ins.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Counseling or a related field.
- One (1) year related work experience.
- Successfully complete a criminal background check with fingerprinting.
- Knowledge of career development theory and experience in administration and interpretation of career inventories.
- Ability to respond to and manage multiple constituencies and to work with diverse populations.
- Desire to meet and work with students.
- Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively as a member of a team.
- Verbal and interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate with a diverse clientele, prepare and deliver presentations, produce, and edit written materials, and perform other duties of the position.
- Functional ability in word processing and presentation applications with the ability to learn the Parkland student information system and new programs as technology changes.
- In
an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40
ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not
be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon
employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their
annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
