Machine Operator; MV Coil Winder

Composed of Chromalox, Durex Industries, Vulcanic, and Thermocoax businesses, Electrical Thermal Solutions (ETS), part of Spirax Group, creates electrical process heating and temperature management solutions, including industrial heaters and systems, heat tracing, and a range of component technologies.

At Chromalox, we build advanced thermal technologies for the world's most challenging industrial heating applications.

Headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, we got our start with an innovative solution 100 years ago when a self-taught engineer invented the first metal-sheathed resistance heating element. It was this then-advanced thermal technology that launched an entire industry.

We excel in industries that have high expectations. We are acknowledged as experts at delivering solutions that exceed specifications, limit risk, and reduce operating costs.

Join us as we continue to provide solutions to our customers and the world!

The Role:

Under limited supervision, winds coils used as electronic components according to work order, using coil-winding machines and hand tools. May set up and operate automatic or manual production machines and equipment, such as spot welder, pin threader, lathe and coil winder, to wind and pin to coil weld according to work orders and specifications.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Reads and interprets work orders, engineering specifications to determine machine setup, production methods, and sequence of operation.
  • Positions and clamps stops and guides; sets up and operates variety of machine tools.
  • Threads end of wire from reel through tension device, guides, and spreader bends wire ends to form lead, and attaches lead to coil core.
  • Starts machine and manually feed wire over coil core or spreader even and uniform winding and shape of coil; cuts wire to form leads, using wire or bolt cutters; uses magnifying glass for fine gauge wires.
  • Selects, positions, and secures the pin to coil weld using measuring devices and hand tools.
  • Welds together metal parts, components, or structures.
  • Inspects or measures work, using rule, gauges, and templates.
  • Observes machine operations, material supplies, and position of work pieces to detect malfunctions, needed supplies, or misaligned parts; may operate up to six different machines.
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance on machines as scheduled and required for TPM.
  • Works individually and as a team to develop and implement quality and efficiency improvements.
  • Conducts tests and inspections of products, or processes to evaluate quality or performance; examines products or work to verify conformance to specifications.
