Qualifications:



  • Health unit coordinator program certificate is preferred
  • Medical background and knowledge of medical terminology preferred
  • BLS certification within 90 days of hire


Job Responsibilities:



  • Registers patients, sets up insurance, and verifies demographics each time a patient arrives at the clinic or ambulatory surgery center.
  • Manages all aspects of scheduling and promptly addresses delays or issues in the operating room.
  • Greets patients and family members and directs or escorts patients to exam rooms.
  • Answers incoming phone calls and directs them to the appropriate areas.
  • Collects patient payments and co-pays at each visit.
  • Schedules and verifies patient appointments.
  • Maintains all accounts for patients at the facility for appointments.
  • Maintains cash drawer.
  • Works closely with clinicians and nursing staff.
  • Completes email requests.
  • Maintains and uses principles of aseptic techniques and infection control when performing clinical duties and tasks.
  • Works with healthcare team to assure smooth and efficient patient flow and clinical operation.
  • Orders, stocks, and maintains exam rooms, special order items, and supply storage areas using par levels of supplies, medications, linens, forms, and equipment.
  • Manages information in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Brings forth new ideas and suggestions to their supervisor.
  • Scheduling flexibility to cover for absences (vacation, sick leaves, etc.)
  • Maintains paper resources
  • Schedules diagnostic tests
  • Communicates with all levels of staff
  • Receptionist duties including extensive computer work and phone communication
  • Facilitates patient admission, transfer, and discharge procedures
  • Protects the confidentiality of patient information
  • Makes patient follow-up appointments
  • Administers the Medicare Outpatient Observation Notice and Hospital Outpatient Observation Notice to patients
  • Other duties as assigned.
