Paralegal, Employment Law

Job Overview:

RWJBarnabas Health, a leading academic health system in New Jersey, is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Paralegal to join its Legal Affairs Department. This role will support the Assistant General Counsel & Vice President of Legal Affairs Employment in managing legal matters related to employment and labor issues within the organization. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of paralegal experience, preferably in a corporate or law firm setting. While experience in employment law is a plus, it is not required.

The Paralegal, Employment Law, reports directly to the Assistant General Counsel & Vice President of Legal Affairs Employment

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of paralegal experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are critical for success in this role.
  • Experience in employment law is a plus but not required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and document management systems.
  • Strong research and analytical skills, with experience using legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis).
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with legal and HR teams.
  • Paralegal certification or equivalent education preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide paralegal support for the legal team in employment-related matters, including documentation, case management, and research.
  • Draft, review, and organize legal documents, correspondence, and agreements.
  • Assist in responding to subpoenas, discovery requests, and administrative agency inquiries (e.g., EEOC, DOL, state labor agencies).
  • Maintain and manage legal files, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and accessibility.
  • Support internal investigations by compiling evidence, organizing documentation, and preparing summaries.
  • Conduct legal research on employment law issues and prepare memoranda as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of training materials, presentations, and reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Track deadlines, filings, and compliance requirements related to employment law matters.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel and internal departments as needed.
