About the Job

Assist head coach in all aspects of developing and maintaining a competitive intercollegiate rowing program within the NCAA and Big Ten Conference. Assist in advancing the department's mission, vision, and strategic plan including its commitment to equity and diversity. Specifically, the successful Assistant Rowing Coach must have strong organizational skills, enjoys collaboration, and is confident in recruiting strategies for attracting both domestic and international recruits

50%: Assist Head Coach in all aspects of coaching

  • Lead coach of first year athletes
  • Contribute to creating a high performing, positive and inclusive training environment for the student-athletes through strong teaching skills and clear communication.
  • Maintains standards of performance consistent with departmental academics and athletics expectations as reflected in the mission statement, goals, objectives, departmental guidelines, and performance appraisal procedures.
  • Commit to adhering to all rules and regulations of the Department, the University, the Big Ten Conference, and the NCAA.

30%: Recruiting

  • Identify, evaluate and recruit qualified student-athletes to the University of Minnesota whose athletic skills make them highly competitive in the Big Ten and whose academic abilities make them good candidates for a meaningful academic experience and graduation from the University of Minnesota.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships within junior rowing programs and high school coaches.
  • May require international travel and long distance domestic travel.
  • Utilize social media platforms to target recruits with consistent branding and messaging.

15%: Perform administrative responsibilities, including assisting in management, planning and executing team travel.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships within the athletics department, the University, community.

5%: Compliance & Academics

  • Coordinates and implements with the head coach eligibility requirements to ensure full compliance with governing rules and regulations, proper administration of financial aid for both prospective and enrolled student-athletes, facilitates scheduling, and competition administration and game operation as necessary.
Qualifications

Required: Bachelor's Degree. Two years of high school or college coaching experience OR four years collegiate rowing or national team rowing experience.

Preferred: Demonstrate ability to lead, teach, and implement effective rowing technique and training to female student-athletes. On campus recruiting experience. Demonstrate ability to assess talent. Demonstrate good organizational skills.

With more than 140 years of tradition, Gopher Athletics is one of the oldest and most decorated athletics departments in the country. Minnesota was a charter member of the Big Ten Conference. The University of Minnesota sponsors 22 varsity intercollegiate athletic teams and is represented by more than 625 student-athletes who compete in the Big Ten and Western Collegiate Hockey Association. Minnesota has claimed 29 national championships in eight different sports and has won 217 regular-season conference titles and 42 conference tournament championships. Minnesota has also produced 213 Academic All-Americans, which ranks as the tenth most all-time among college and universities. Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
