THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will engage in a variety of skilled tasks focused on the repair and structural welding of bridge components. Your responsibilities will include repairing equipment frames, hitches, and plows, as well as fabricating parts for diverse applications. You will showcase your proficiency in multiple welding techniques, including welding, brazing, soldering, and metal cutting, applicable to both ferrous and non-ferrous metals for highway and bridge maintenance and construction. This role also involves working with specialized materials like stainless steel and aluminum, particularly in repairing winter service equipment such as plow frames and blades. You will be tasked with fabricating new or replacement parts, preheating and cleaning metals, and estimating the time and materials required for repairs. Additionally, you will operate motorized equipment during fabrication and welding, maintain your tools, and uphold a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety protocols. Vigilance regarding potential hazards is essential, and you will be expected to take proactive measures to prevent accidents, promptly reporting any injuries to ensure appropriate care.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Work schedule is subject to change due to weather/ season, winter shifts are 4:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures; or
  • Completion of a three-year, high school Vo-Tech training program in welding and eighteen months of experience in the operation and use of welding equipment, materials, and related shop equipment to repair, maintain, or fabricate parts, equipment, or structures; or
  • Completion of an approved welder apprentice program; or
  • A welding certificate D1.1 from the American Welding Society; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Special Requirement:
  • This position requires possession of an active Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.
