Location: This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).


General Summary of Job Responsibilities

The Senior Corrosion & Integrity Engineer is responsible for performing Corrosion Control and/or Direct Assessment (DA) work to ensure compliance with the Pipeline Integrity rules, Corrosion Control regulations and NACE standards. The Corrosion & Integrity Engineer will be responsible for building, managing, and analyzing data collected from multiple sources to be used in Corrosion Control (Internal Corrosion (IC), External Corrosion (EC) or Cathodic Protection (CP)) or DA Analytical Models (IC, EC, or Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC)), evaluate the remaining strength of pipelines and the risk/threat on our pipelines per Company or NACE guidelines. The Senior Corrosion & Integrity Engineer will maintain current standards and develop new standards to align with changes in regulations and be a representative for internal/external audits (MPSC). They will also develop and administer training for technicians and other employees for corrosion related topics, develop plans to remediate and or repair the cathodic protect system and/or pipeline, provide oversight of contractors and internal employees performing corrosion control surveys, selection of inspection sites (IC, EC, SCC, disbanded coatings, coating shorts, etc.), manage and report on the completion of multiple projects, and develop Key Performance Indicators (KPI's).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support other transmission and distribution pipeline engineering activities as needed
  • Interface with internal and external contacts in order to execute CC or DA projects, include Project Management, Project Controls, Supply Chain, Operations, Pipeline Integrity, Corrosion Control, Gas Control, and Real Estate
  • Perform analysis of existing data and surveys - consolidate and rank information to determine excavation locations in accordance with NACE standards and regulations
  • Serve as primary Project Engineer or Corrosion SME on project teams to ensure that survey, analysis, dig selection, direct inspection and repairs are completed correctly to address and remediate the IC, EC, SCC, MIC, AC threats
  • Collaborate on and/or develop engineering specifications, standard revisions, approved materials, and established processes
  • Conduct project site walk-downs, coordinate meetings, and provide project/program updates to Consumers Energy management and the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC)
  • Create work plans and schedule inspections or repairs
  • Prepare contracts, select bidders and bid evaluations for contractors that perform survey and/or excavations
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to meet and manage multiple deadlines
  • Ability to solve complex problems,take new perspectives using existing solutions
  • Proficiency in the following applications: ArcMap (GIS), eDNA, SAP, PCS, Citect, Power BI, Microsoft SharePoint, Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams
  • Knowledge of corrosion control or direct assessment survey, test methods, inspections and repair methods
  • Knowledge and/or experience in utility operations, preferred in Gas Operations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.8, NACE Standards, 49 CFR 192, and the Michigan Gas Safety Standards
  • Knowledge and application of regulatory compliance and utility trends
  • Experience mentoring employees and leading teams

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with four (4) or more years of equivalent experience

    • [OR] Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a non-ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering licensure with four (4) or more yearsof equivalent experience



Certifications

  • NACE Certifications based on area of expertise (ex: CP1, CP2 or CP3) required
