Clinical Research Student Wilson CVD

A research lab within the Brigham and Women's Cardiovascular Medicine division is currently seeking a motivated, personable, and detail-oriented individual to assist with clinical research related to cardiovascular disease and wearable sensors. This position will work on a new project combining cardiology, pulmonology, and data science at Brigham and Women's Hospital in collaboration with a multinational technology company. Working under the supervision of the Director of Operations, Senior Project Manager, & Clinical Research Assistants, the candidate will follow established policies and procedures to execute the studies. The Summer Student will assist Clinical Research Assistants in recruiting and evaluating patients for studies (both in-person and remotely), collecting and organizing patient data, maintaining and updating data generated by the study, and data analysis. Because much of the work is team-based, the candidate will closely collaborate with research assistants, project managers, clinicians, and data scientists. In some instances, the candidate may engage with our industry partners, fostering collaborative relationships that enhance the project's scope and impact.

On a day-to-day basis, the candidate will play a pivotal role in the successful implementation of the research project. This will involve actively engaging with patients in various hospital settings, clearly articulating the study's objectives, procedures, and potential risks/benefits, and obtaining informed consent. Once consent is secured, the Summer Student will assist Clinical Research Assistants in guiding participants through the study procedures, which will evolve as the project progresses. These procedures will primarily feature wearable sensors to monitor and collect relevant health data. The candidate will work directly with the data science team to ensure these data are recorded, organized, and maintained securely and functionally.

• Provide assistance on clinical research studies as per study guidelines and protocols. Recruit and evaluate potential study participants in a hospital setting and over the phone.
• Significant interaction with study participants, including patient education, and procedural instruction. May serve as a liaison between patient and physician.
• Responsible for collecting data and maintaining patient information databases. It may be required to input data, do minimum analysis and run various reports.
• Maintain patient records. Serving as the primary point of contact for patients enrolled in the studies, reach out to program participants, and follow up with them as they progress through the program.
• Identify areas for improvement in study implementation and work with senior leadership to execute.
• Help to design comprehensive end-to-end documentation for follow-up with participants and data flows throughout the project.
• Monitor and set up any needed equipment. Maintain inventory and order supplies when necessary.
• May be asked to perform clinical tests such as phlebotomy, EKGs, etc.

Required:

• Currently Enrolled in a Bachelor's degree, required.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, given extensive interaction with study participants.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of clinical research protocols.
• Knowledge of computer programs, databases, etc.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks.
• Careful attention to detail.
• Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subject's rights and individual needs.
