Position Summary

The Category Manager is focused on coordinating development and delivery of customer products. The Category Manager will prepare business cases for new products, report the performance of their product category, and oversee the day to day activities of assigned product managers. Category Managers monitor market activity and develop product delivery and promotional strategies for boosting market penetration. He/she also ensures alignment of internal delivery teams, including customer service, finance, engineering, and marketing, to ensure smooth and efficient delivery of products to the customer.

Category Managers ensure that all products are properly evaluated for the company to achieve corporate targets and goals, including customer satisfaction, energy savings, or other related metrics. Category Managers are in charge of preparing and delivering customer presentations, promotional proposals, and other business endeavors. It is important they improve product up-take rates through new business opportunities. Category Managers also assure that all services are executed for a product line including testing, implementation, marketing, training, and on-going customer support. Category Managers are responsible for the results of their product portfolio. They have oversight of product budgets, report monthly results, and set targets for future program years.

Category Managers must develop and maintain good working relationships with a variety of stakeholders including account managers, customers, vendors, marketing and product managers. Category Managers also interact with senior management and deliver presentations to customers and at industry events.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Drive performance of the product portfolio through development of marketing/promotional strategies, enhancements to existing products, and new product initiatives.
  • Set annual targets and budgets for their assigned product category.
  • Evaluate the portfolio category for cost-effectiveness, customer satisfaction, and MW/MWh impacts.
  • Refine product portfolio to align with long term objectives of the company.
  • Deliver and report results for each product in a category.
  • Provide monthly variance analysis and product/category performance for financial reporting.
  • Supervise work of assigned Product Managers and set performance goals

Minimum Skills
Minimum Knowledge and Abilities
Proficiency in product development, project management, and marketing of a product portfolio.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Advanced Excel, Access).
Valid Class C Texas Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with implementation of energy efficiency, demand response and/or distributed solar programs.
  • Certification as Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Proficiency in SAP, SAP Business Objects and/or Tableau

Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Economics, Business Administration, Engineering or a related field from an accredited university.
Required Certifications
Working Environment
Indoor work, operating computer, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, repetitive motion. Use of personal computing equip, phone, multi-functioning printer & calculator. Ability to travel to & from meetings, training sessions or other busi-related events.
Physical Demands
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.
