Key Position Details:
- Full time position (80 hours every two-week period)
- 8-hour, evening shifts
- Occasional weekends: Team rotates weekends
- Saturday: Typically, four hours onsite and four hours on call, Sunday: on call hours

Job Description: Performs moderate and complex specimen procedures in the areas of anatomical/surgical pathology and immunohistochemistry. Oversees one or more technical work area, which includes oversight of key operators, regulatory compliance, new method project plans, technical communications, and cost-effective inventory control. Serves as a lead for training students and new employees, participates in system competency development, and assists in the direct observation of staff for the annual competency program. Functions as a liaison to system Technical Specialist and serves as Charge Tech in absence of Lead/Supervisor/Manager.

Principle Responsibilities
- Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures.
- Performs all routine histology functions that support the production of microscopic slides for interpretation by a pathologist.
- Accessions tissue specimens, assists Pathologist Assistants, sections frozen tissue using a cryostat, processes and embeds tissue specimens, performs microtomy and staining, prepares solutions and stains, completes specialty testing using histochemical and/or immunohistochemical techniques, and performs quality control procedures.
- Assesses integrity of specimens for testing and processing, verifying correct patient identification and using safe and secure specimen handling.
- Evaluates results for accuracy and resolves complex test problems.
- Performs and documents required instrument maintenance and quality control; takes appropriate remedial action.
- Ensures appropriate record keeping and retention.
- Maintains oversight as a key operator of multiple work areas.
- Recognizes problems and takes appropriate measures to resolve them using excellent customer service skills.
- May assist with biopsy collection.
- Accurate and timely processing of specimens.
- Reviews orders and verifies correct patient labeling.
- Performs processing of specimens with strict adherence to the quality control and quality assurance policies.
- Maintains safety, education, and competency requirements.
- Functions as Charge Tech in the absence of Lead/Supervisor/Manager.
- Stocks, rotates and requests supplies.
- Communicates complex department issues with Technical Specialist, Manager, or Pathologist.
- Participates and assists in the direct observation of staff for the annual competency program.
- May be involved in procedure writing, validation and implementation of new methodologies, as directed by Technical Specialist.
- Serves as the trainer for new employees.
- Participates in departmental or system wide meetings, project/committees as assigned.
- Performs various clerical duties.
- Participates in the training of employees and students.
- Performs proficiency testing as assigned.
- Assists in Direct Observations of staff for annual competency program.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in histotechnology or related science from a accredited institution plus completion of clinical internship
- CLIA defined Qualifications: * 493.1423 Standard; Testing personnel qualifications
- CLIA defined Qualifications: * 493.1489 Standard; Testing personnel qualifications
- CLIA defined Qualifications: * 493.1491 Technologist qualifications on or before February 28, 1992
Licenses/Certifications
- Histotechnologist, HTL certification by a recognized agency such as ASCP or NCA within 180 Days required

Pay Range
Pay Range: $37.54 to $50.94 per hour
The pay described reflects the base hourly pay range. Your starting rate would depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable). Shift, weekend and/or other differentials may be available to increase your pay rate for certain shifts or work.
