CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

Engineering Design for Industrial Ventilation Systems



  • Coordinates for the design and implementation of projects from preliminary engineering, detailed design to construction, successful start-up and acceptance by operating management at the site.
  • Lead the design, development and implementation of advanced industrial ventilation and dust collection systems to ensure optimal performance and safety.
  • Participate in the risk assessments for combustible dust hazards and develop robust mitigations strategies to prevent incidents.
  • Ensure all designs and systems comply with relevant safety and environmental regulations, including National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
  • Have a knowledge base of Thermal Oxidizers (TO) to decompose hazardous gases at high temperatures, scrubbers to remove particulates and gases from industrial exhaust streams, and Regenerative Thermal Oxidizer (RTOs) to preheat and oxidize input gases using ceramic beds.
  • Work Closely with cross-functional teams, including project engineers, regional engineers, site engineers and safety personnel to deliver quality system design, cost estimates and site guidance on aging systems.
  • Knowledge of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems for engineered make-up air systems and low-level ventilation.
  • Ability to design and engineer Dust Collection Systems, Low Level Ventilation, Make-Up Air Units and other manufacturing ventilation systems.

    • Ability to perform static pressure calculations for dust collection systems, dust hoods, vapor collections and manufacturing vessels.
    • Ability to size duct collection systems (ductwork, exhaust fans, deflagration systems) based on NFPA Standards, Sherwin-Williams Standards, American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) Industrial Ventilation Design standards.
    • Knowledge in maintaining fluid velocity in ductwork to omit material from fall out of air stream.

  • Candidate shall be capable of performing regular site inspections and visual audits to verify system performance, identify potential issues, implement corrective actions.
  • Ability to ensure the Air Balance Testing and Duct Traverse readings at project closeout match the engineering construction documents and design.


Engineering Piping Design Knowledge



  • Ability to calculate and engineering hydronic piping systems and process piping systems.

    • Provide fluid flow calculations for raw materials based on density, distance, pressure drop and desired target flow rates.
    • Engineer shall be able to produce Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (PIDs) for not only ventilation systems but have the ability to create them for process piping systems.



Proficient in Computer Aided Design (CAD) Programs.



  • Developing designs within select fields of disciplines (Process Flow Diagrams, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams {P&ID's}, General Arrangement Layouts and overall Site Layout Drawings, Elevation and Plan views, detailed ventilation and piping designs, isometric schematics, etc.)
  • Create construction documents with various AutoDESK products including Revit, AutoCAD MEP, Plant 3D, Navisworks and Inventor.
  • Create Navisworks Models (.NWC, .NWD, .NWF) for design review sessions to walk through detailed progression of process piping with other division disciplines, Site leadership and Operations.


Develop and support detailed bidding documentation for procurement of equipment and vendors.



  • Detail Equipment Specific Functional Specifications
  • Process / Project Mechanical Scope of Work for process mechanical design including process piping and process ventilation.
  • Origination of accurate CAD based Process Flow Diagrams, P&ID's, Equipment Layout, Elevation, Plan View drawings, Piping Designs, as well as other drawings and specifications for use in contractor bidding and construction.


Generate bid packages and specifications for cost estimating, Sherwin Williams Insurance underwriter review, and issued for construction within specific fields of expertise.



  • Dust Collection Systems and Deflagration Equipment
  • Low Level and Make-up Air Ventilation Systems
  • Air Rotation Systems for large scale manufacturing warehouse.


Incorporation of Operational, Manufacturing and Quality requirements into process and equipment designs.



  • Implementation of new technologies into areas of designs for new processes, equipment, and facilities as part of a larger project.


Actively increasing technical expertise and proficiency in AutoDESK product suites.



  • Skill set includes, Layer and Nomenclature Management, paper-space vs. model-space, blocks, templates.
  • Utilizing Global Supply Chain Engineer Services standards for CAD drawing (templates, numbering systems, etc)
  • Utilizing AutoDesk Construction Cloud (ACC) for hosting cloud based project and models. Working through design stage gate processes while using the ACC and construction Build module for handling RFI's and Submittals.
  • Assist field personnel to assure compliance to departmental standards and basic CAD competencies.


Project Management



  • This role includes the use of a narrower set of problem solving and Project Management methodologies.

    • Incumbent participates in division-level programs as a member of project team, ensuring the successful completion of project objectives while pursuing improvement projects.
    • Leads multiple Design and Continuous Improvement projects.
    • Works with GSC sites to develop detailed cost estimates for specific design components of projects.
    • Works with Division Engineering Leadership to develop timelines for design and construction periods based on the project charter and scopes.

  • Working member of cross functional, Global Supply Chain project teams

    • Works on teams of 1-6 people during all stages of the project life cycle.
    • Assists Project Managers in the development of end-date schedules of assigned projects through development, implementation and works to ensure critical-path of project schedules.

  • Offers guidance, directing the efforts of outside contractors and engineering companies on major capital projects.
  • Conducts contractor bid walk-through when appropriate on internal designs.
  • Provides recommendations to Skilled Trades contractors at the beginning of equipment installation in the field and then again, as required, through to successful completion and installation of equipment or process.
  • Provide onsite construction administration support through the duration of construction including site visits, punch list and installation verification
  • Participates in new process or facility commissioning and start-ups.


Engineering Services Consultant



  • Assists in the qualifying equipment vendors and contractors to minimize faulty construction, time delays, and lawsuits.
  • Supports the development Standard Operating Procedures' for operator training at the site. Facilitating turn-over of processes and equipment to plant operating personnel.
  • Provides input on purchases.
  • Dust Collection Systems, Deflagration equipment, Exhaust Fans, Make-Up Air units, Process Devices, Piping, Raw Material Storage, Process Vessels, material handling equipment, etc.
  • Participates in Factory Acceptance Testing activities for selected equipment at vendor's facility
  • Obtains quotations from vendors on specified equipment (Dust Collectors, Make-Up Air Units, Vessels, Piping, Control Devices.)
  • Reviews performance of selected equipment or contractors used on assigned projects to control quality of work.
  • Provides CAD-based design and cost estimates for special projects.
  • Provides engineering related designs and consulting as a key member of the project team for major capital and Continuous Improvement projects.
  • Provides assistance to Plant Engineers as a member of larger project teams.
  • Presents designs during peer review of drawings and other technical documentation prepared by incumbent to ensure correctness and accuracy in form, fit and function.
  • Develops process equipment drawings and specifications that may be incorporated into Global Supply Chain Engineering Services Standards and recommended Best Practices.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

FORMAL EDUCATION:

Required:



  • BA or BS in Engineering or related field


Preferred:



  • BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering


KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Required:



  • 5-7 years of related engineering experience
  • Good interpersonal skills, project management, organization, leadership skills, decision making ability, relationship building


Preferred:



  • Familiarity with Continuous Improvement processes/techniques: i.e. 6 sigma certified, lean, transactional lean, root cause analysis, etc.
  • Professional Engineering License


TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proven Design Engineering skills and results.
  • Experience developing Scope of Work Documents and approve vendor bids packages
  • AutoCAD Plant 3D, Revit, Naviswork, Inventor, Autodesk Construction Cloud
