Your Role on the Team

The Academic HR Analyst advises and counsels departmental administration on a wide variety of matters concerning employment and personnel policies and procedures for faculty in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery.
As a seasoned experienced professional with a comprehensive understanding of UC, campus, and unit academic practices, policies, and procedures, resolves moderate to complex academic HR-related issues affecting a broad range of academic titles in imaginative and practical ways.

Under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer/Department Administrtar, incumbent manages all academic functions in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. This includes equal opportunity/affirmative action issues, academic recruitment, appointments, merit increases, promotions, benefits, sabbaticals, grievances, layoffs and union issues, employee relations, compensation, training and development. Advisor to the Chairs, Department Administrators, and faculty and non-faculty with regard to Academic Personnel concerns. Responsible for academic appointments and yearly renewals of all full-time and part-time faculty and non-academic appointment.

  • Requires thorough knowledge of and ability to apply / interpret organization and college policies and procedures which govern academic HR.
  • Thorough knowledge of systemwide and organization policies, initiatives such as Equal Opportunity and Diversity, union contracts, procedures and practices that govern academic HR administration.
  • Knowledge of trends in academia, especially in areas of academic planning, human resource management and administration.
  • Ability to analyze complex management issues, develop project scope and solutions, give professional advice to senior officials and make critical decisions regarding personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with tact and diplomacy with diverse internal and external audiences; good presentation skills with ability to present to diverse audiences.
  • Excellent critical and innovative thinking to address moderately complex issues and present nuanced analyses; skill to analyze information, problems, situations, practices, and procedures to define problems and/or objectives, identify relevant factors, formulate logical conclusions, and develop solutions to problems.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality of personnel information.
  • Good organizational skills to prioritize, work independently with minimal direction and follow through on assignments in a deadline-driven environment with a heavy workload and competing priorities.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with administrators, faculty, staff and students with diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated skill using computer software (Microsoft Office suite).
  • Strong writing skills to create professional reports, correspondence, job descriptions, policies, procedures and other documents.
  • Working knowledge of California laws and regulations pertaining to medical licensure and certificates of registration; working knowledge of the UC Health Sciences Compensation Plan.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience of personnel administration experience or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Preferred:

  • Thorough knowledge of requirements for hiring international employees, including the USCIS visa request process at the University of California; thorough knowledge of UCI campus departments and central administrative offices, their services, roles and responsibilities, for consultation if necessary.
