Job Overview

Our Systems Control location in Iron Mountain, MI is looking for an EHS Specialist who wants to grow with us as we grow! Under the direction of the Sr. Environmental Health & Safety Manager, the EHS Specialist ensures proper disposal of hazardous wastes generated. Responds to incidents throughout the facility for immediate reporting. Implements environmental, health and safety (EH&S) compliance programs and actions to ensure compliance with local, state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations. Conducts and documents safety inspections, citing dangerous areas and procedures.

A Day In The Life

  • Implementand monitorenvironmental, health and safety programs including injury reduction, industrial safety, waste management, air emissions, and spill/emergency response
  • Conductand documentsafety and environmental inspections as required.
  • Assistthe Sr EHS Manager in the development and execution EHS training programs for employees in areas, such as, regulated EHS training, hazardous material safety and handling, emergency response, waste management, and life safety
  • Ensurecompliance regarding hazardous chemicals and substances right to know and related regulations
  • Ordersuspension of activities with the concurrence of the EHS Manager that poses a threat to workers health and safety
  • Implementemergency response plans and procedures
  • Function as the primary or alternate Emergency Coordinator as assigned
  • Readand researchrelevant subject matter to maintain current knowledge and competencies in the EHSfield
  • Provide education and training to personnel as required
  • Worksafely and follow safety rules and regulations.
  • Reportunsafe working conditions and behavior.
  • Take actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.
  • Adhere to Hubbell's safety culture.

What will help you thrive in this role?

  • Associate degree or equivalent education credentials in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, a relevant technical or engineering discipline, or an equivalent background of experience and training providing knowledge of appropriate environmental, health and safety practices, principles and procedures preferred.
  • Possess at least one year of experience in the Environmental Health and Safety field.
  • Being detail oriented, compliance minded, and having keen interpersonal skills are necessary to perform effectively in the position.
  • Position requires basic proficiency in software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment. Frequent heavy lifting, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling.
