Clinical Information Systems Liaison

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Acts as the Employee Health department's primary liaison for the development, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of computer information systems. Researches system errors/problems, identifies and takes corrective action and communicates follow-up information to users as appropriate. Ensures system reflects regulatory agency requirements. Coordinates, evaluates and implements system upgrades with Information Technology (IT) and vendor.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Interfaces with other hospital computer systems to update, verify or merge information.

3. *Develops, evaluates, maintains and troubleshoots the department's computer information system modules, tables and databases.

4. *Monitors system's hardware, software and performance characteristics and proactively addresses issues.

5. *Develops monitoring techniques and downtime processes to maintain interfaces and systems in sync with other hospital systems.

6. *Develops and maintains departmental policies and procedures related to system processes and usage.

7. *Generates routine and specialized administrative reports; utilizes interface capacity to design and generate custom reports; creates graphics and flow charts to communicate report results as appropriate.

8. *Coordinates hardware and software enhancements and testing with departmental personnel, Information Technology (IT) and vendor as needed; resolves operational problems in communication with internal and external system users.

9. *Interprets regulatory agency standards and requirements which impact the department's processes; initiates system changes to accommodate regulation revisions/additions; communicates revisions/additions to inter-and intra-departmental system users.

10. *Develops training materials and trains users to the department's functional information system; acts as departmental liaison and resource for user questions and requests; designs and updates training materials and reference manuals.

11. Assigns appropriate access level to users; notifies security personnel of staff access need.

12. *Anticipates system and capacity upgrades and ongoing maintenance requirements; identifies potential budgetary impact and costs.

13. Troubleshoots and supports other system hardware and software as utilized by the department; contacts Information Technology or vendor as needed.

14. Monitors assigned systems for compliance with data integrity standards.

15. Serves as back up RN for any of the clinic sites in Employee Health as the Clinic RN.

16. Participates in Flu Vaccine Clinics as the Administrator of the vaccine.

17. Works with other Bryan Health Entities on best practice in Employee Health and user consistency with the software program.

18. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

19. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.

20. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of regulatory agencies and corporate compliance requirements related to the department.

2. Knowledge of information system applications and peripheral equipment relevant to the department.

3. Knowledge of computer hardware equipment and software application relevant to work functions.

4. Knowledge of data management principles and practices.

5. Knowledge of medical terminology and health care intervention techniques relevant to the department.

6. Ability to instruct others in system usage.

7. Ability to engage in problem solving with service personnel, department and hospital personnel.

8. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

9. Ability to perform crucial conversations with desired outcomes.

10. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel and medical staff.

11. Ability to use RN critical thinking when collaborating with Customers and Software. Being able to make it user friendly and client driven.

12. Ability to problem solve and engage independent critical thinking skills.

13. Ability to maintain confidentiality relevant to sensitive information.

14. Ability to prioritize work demands and work with minimal supervision.

15. Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Current Registered Nurse licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. Experience in computer science beneficial or experience/education in computer science.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

(Physical Requirements are based on federal criteria and assigned by Human Resources upon review of the Principal Job Functions.)
