Overview
Senior Foundation Accountant Day Shift, Full-time Able to work on-site or Fully remote. Oversees relationships with assigned departments. Analyzes and maintains detailed accounting and statistical records to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting with special emphasis on analytical review. Performs lead role in month-end reporting and initiates, leads, or participates in improvement to financial accounting, reporting, and processes. Serves as a subject matter expert for both Corporate departments and finance teams at assigned affiliates for both providing and analyzing financial data as well as performance against financial benchmarks. Prepares, reviews, and explains financial reports, including fund activity. Prepares annual budgets with the assistance of the operations managers. Provides other support as requested. Continuously process improves and creating tools to better delegate core tasks to interns. Oversee key processes and provides structure, timeline, and guidance to other accountants and interns (examples include: tax returns, budgets, financial templates, endowment calculations, beneficial interest, annuities, granting, pledges, pooled cash etc).

Responsibilities
Senior Foundation Accounting
- Analyzes monthly financial statements and prepares written communication of variances. Provides follow-up with responsible parties as appropriate. Follows up with departmental directors and managers as needed.
- Assigned departments and is responsible for development of communication, relationship and design of support to ensure effective and efficient communication and operations.
- Leads month end reporting and initiates and participates in improving financial accounting, reporting and processes.
- Serves as a subject matter expert for both Corporate departments and finance teams at assigned affiliates for both providing and analyzing financial data as well as performance against financial benchmarks. Prepares, reviews, and explains financial reports, including fund activity.
- Review and approval of documentation prepared by Staff Accountants for monthly financial statement preparation (i.e. journal entries, account reconciliations, etc).Completes monthly journal entries for certain assigned areas and maintains account reconciliations for related balance sheet accounts.
- Maintains adherence to generally accepted accounting principles and UnityPoint Health general financial policies.
- Researches and documents using proper accounting principles for major transactions, such as acquisitions or disposals business lines.
- Supports other departments and affiliates, as necessary, in preparation of budgets, including ongoing performance monitoring and reporting.
- Maintain focus on process improvement opportunities within the department and individual accounting team to increase the efficiency and/or effectiveness of the department and impact our business operations.
- Responsible for resolving questions, inquiries, complaints and/or disputes with Finance departmental customers and organizational points of contact as it relates to accounting matters demonstrating excellent customer service.
- Participates in the development and mentoring of Staff Accountants
- Maintains and expands knowledge of G/L system and all systems which interface with the G/L
Donor Database & Financial Reporting Integration
Leads support for donor database financial reporting integrity and integration, including direct mail query & primary contact for mailing house; prepare & code lists from RE, clean purchased lists, coordinate materials & processing, update appeals tab, update RE with returned mail. Create and review tools to ensure accurate, consistent and efficient financial reporting and database integration and reporting - Lead KPI development tools and support such development with database coordinators
- Run queries, lists, reports as requested.
Primary support for adding and updating donor demographic information, including mailing addresses, new addresses, seasonal addresses, deceased, new donors, attribute updating, solicitor portfolio classifications.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
Experience:
- Five (5) year's accounting experience.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Valid driver's license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Must have knowledge of general accounting, financial statement presentations and statistical presentation necessary to support financial reporting
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work as team member, creating and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Strong Microsoft office computer skills, including advanced mail merge and excel functions
- Ability to interpret, analyze, evaluate, and present data in an effective and understandable format.
