Senior Business Development Representative
Purpose:
Weld America, a division of Colonna's Shipyard, is seeking a dynamic and results-driven Business Development/ Sales professional to drive business growth.
Position Summary:
The Senior Business Development Representative will sell onsite welding, onsite machining, small fabrication, and turnkey manufacturing solutions to new and existing customers across various industries including Defense, Energy, Oil & Gas, Commercial Marine, and general Industry.
This role is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, maintaining strong relationships with existing clients, and promoting our business. The ideal candidate will have an extensive portfolio of industry contacts and experience in industrial sales, a strong technical understanding of welding/machining or related services, and a proven track record of meeting sales targets. The ideal candidate will also have an entrepreneurial spirit and business startup mentality that can obtain immediate sales.
The position is located onsite in Norfolk, VA and may require hours beyond a standard work week to support business operations, as needed. Position may require a moderate level of travel (both local and non-local).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead Generation & Outreach: This is a sales hunting role - candidate must be able to identify and pursue new business opportunities that drive revenue growth. Assist in the implementation and coordination of Weld America's business development program. Proactively perform customer outreach to identify and engage with potential new customers within the assigned market segments.
- Customer Engagement: Introduce and position Weld America as the technical leader in onsite Welding & Machining services. Discuss customer needs, problems, or concerns during outreach calls to develop and maintain strong relationships. Arrange meetings with prospective clients and relevant internal teams to explore business opportunities and project solutions.
- Sales Strategy Development: Collaborate with the Sales and Marketing teams to develop and implement effective sales and capture strategies that align with company goals and market opportunities. Conduct research to identify trends, customer needs, and competitive offerings. Develop and/or assist in proposal preparation, obtain and follow up on RFQs, and deliver sales presentations (to include focus on knowledge of application opportunities, monetized pain points, and consultative solution selling). Build and maintain backlog of work to drive revenue predictability while maintaining general cost & progress awareness of ongoing projects, support invoicing, and collection (as needed).
- Prospect Identification & Engagement: Identify potential business opportunities, analyze market trends, and engage with prospective clients to create interest and secure new accounts or add-on business with existing customers. Attend industry/trade shows, networking events, and other efforts to understand competition in the market and create strategies that drive results.
- Relationship Building: Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key decision-makers, influencers, and stakeholders in both new and existing accounts to ensure ongoing business success, as well as with internal service and support departments.
- Call Documentation & Reporting: Document all outreach activities, including call results and follow-up actions, in the customer relationship management (CRM) tool. Provide administration and oversight to the CRM systems to support detailed reporting to management on customer interactions, opportunities, market trends, etc.
- Market Intelligence: Compile and analyze market data, statistics, and customer feedback to inform business development strategies and recommend potential improvements or new directions.
- Strategic Recommendations: Based on customer feedback and market insights, provide actionable recommendations to the business development leadership to refine strategies and improve sales outcomes.
Required Qualifications:
- Must have a Bachelors Degree (or equivalent experience) and at least 5+ years of demonstrated experience in business development, sales, or account management - preferably within industrial, welding/machining, manufacturing/steel fabrication, or related maritime industries.
- Must have thorough understanding of welding/machining processes, equipment, and industry applications.
- Must have excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with both clients and internal teams at all levels, with well developed negotiation and problem solving skills.
- Must be able to think creatively and identify unique solutions to customer challenges and business opportunities.
- Must be able to identify opportunities, generate leads, and manage sales pipelines effectively.
- Must be able to gather and analyze market and customer data to inform business strategies and decision-making, leveraging specific experience in market analysis and use of Customer Relationship Management tools.
Travel Requirements:
- Minimal Travel; 10% or less.
Security Requirements:
- Must be able to access government facilities and be DBIDS eligible.
- Position requires you to obtain and maintain a DBIDS.
- Position requires US Citizenship.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs.
- Must be physically agile to perform tasks in naval ships. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces, including enter and moving through manholes.
- May ride ships at sea for extended periods.
- Able to perform other duties as required, which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels.
- Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
- Employee is required to operate trucks, forklifts & man-lifts.
- While performing the duties of this job, you may frequently be required to stand, walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb and balance, stoop, squat, kneel, twist and crawl.
- Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation
- Frequent use of respirator.
- Protective clothing or equipment and face shields or goggles shall be worn when welding, cutting, or working with molten metal.
