The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Position Summary |
The individual in this role will be a part of a team exploring models of respiratory disease and viral infection and approaches to prevent infection or reduce disease using vaccination and therapeutics. The individual will develop and implement animal models of vaccination, infection, and treatment involving a variety of BSL2 and BSL3 pathogens. They will develop and implement assays to define immunological and virological endpoints, as well as complete molecular assays. The individual will mentor graduate and undergraduate students as well as other personnel in the Center for Vaccines and Immunology. They will present their research in regular internal meetings and external conferences and draft manuscripts and reports for publication. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively in English with supervisors, peers, and trainees, both orally and via email and other written communication
- Manage time and multitask to enable oversight of multiple projects and studies as well as supervise multiple trainees
- Establish and maintain positive working relationships with diverse and motivated team members; Design and execute complex immunological, virological, and related studies, collect and record data, and analyze results to covey to their supervisor and others;
- Competency in aseptic technique and appropriate microbial practices for working with human respiratory pathogens (BSL2)
- Familiarity with molecular biology techniques
- Strong experience in flow cytometry and high-dimensional immunologic and/or transcriptomic data analysis
- Organize data and ideas to draft and revise manuscripts and funding applications as well as prepare and present at scientific meetings.
