Join a highly talented team of designers and engineers who design custom chassis for the world's greatest firetrucks. Chassis Engineering at E-one is responsible for designing, packaging and optimizing various component of the vehicle including: frames, suspension, engines, transmissions cooling packages, brakes systems, fuel systems, bumpers and associated bumper designs. Through our development process we design custom solutions to meet specific customer needs in a fast pace, fun working environment.

As a chassis designer at E-ONE you will be responsible for design of mechanical systems, working with and through Design Engineers to meet customer and sales product requirements. The ideal candidate will show attention to detail and have the ability to produce defect-free design packages within the specified schedule. Support production during and after vehicle build phase. The Chassis Designer at E-ONE is relied upon by other employees and customers for technical guidance and support. Chassis Designers work in small group settings and are expected to be self-starters.

Responsibilities:

  • Creation or changing mechanical and systems used on Fire Apparatus.
  • Creation of drawings to be used to manufacture components. Knowledge and practical use of drawing and drafting standards is important. Dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) of detailed drawings conforming to drafting standards and department policies. Knowledge of manufacturing processes with emphasis on metal fabrication / assemblies will be needed.
  • The candidate will apply DFM methodologies to deliver producible designs to Manufacturing ensuring form, fit and function.
  • Creation and management of indented Bills of Materials (BOM) in adherence to company standards.
  • Manufacturing support to ensure quality and schedule commitments are met.
  • Fulfillment of customer requirements (I.E., sales orders) taking into consideration design rules and all applicable interface points. Participate in design reviews as appropriate to solicit input to deliver a robust design, avoid interferences and meet all industry and company requirements.
  • Participation in customer meetings to understand design requirements and answer questions regarding product design parameters and/or limitations.
  • Process Engineering changes through established processes and documentation (ECO).
  • Useful skills:
    • Awareness and familiarization of regulatory standards - NFPA, DOT, ULC etc.
    • Knowledge and use of lean principles as they apply to manufacturing and business processes.
    • Problem solving skills including Root Cause Analysis, 5-Why, Is Is-Not, etc.
  • Perform or assist with any operations, as required or directed, to maintain work flow or respond to production or customer requirements.

Identify the need for and assist in initiating and implementing corrective and preventive actions when appropriate.
  3. FLEXIBILITY: Able and willing to work in other areas as needed. Must be flexible in taking lunch and breaks when workflow requires. Willing to work additional hours as necessary.
  4. INITIATIVE: Actively participate in continuous improvement of products and processes to better serve customers and improve the overall profitability of E-ONE. Actively seek out work in other areas when current assignment is complete. Make suggestions for improving product quality, processes, safety, and company profitability.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate Degree in an Engineering Field or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in CAD systems - CREO and Auto CAD or equivalent 3D software
  • Minimum of 2 years general design work experience
  • Knowledge of NFPA/FMVSS standards related to Fire Apparatus is not required but will be beneficial
