We are positioned on virtually every aircraft flying today, supplying highly reliable systems that are supportable and add significant value for our customers. Special Process Surveillance Specialist I: The Special Process Surveillance Specialist (SPSS) provides engineering support to Moog Engineering, Quality Assurance, and Production Operations for various technical special processes used at Moog. The primary focus for this position is technical special process auditing internal and (external as needed), the facilitation of corrective action request to closure, and provide support in data analysis published periodically to various top management, functional managers/supervisors and other Moog personnel. The primary function is to identify gaps between specification requirements and process implementation and to assess the effectiveness of corrective actions. The SPSS will also provide input in the analysis of special process audit results in determining trends and value-added steps to improve Moog processes. The SSPS will have a level of expertise in Painting, Chemical Conversion Coating, Crimping, Soldering, Heat Treatment, Chrome Plating, FPI/Etch, MPI, Passivation, HVOF, Shot Peening, and numerous plating processes. These functions are not all inclusive, thus the SPSS must be flexible to a changing workload. The incumbent shall report to Global Business Risk & Audit Manager and will be expected to take independent actions as required and provide technical assistance and services to other engineering personnel. The SPSS position does not involve the direct supervision of personnel, however, in practice, a significant amount of time will be spent providing direction, leadership, mentoring and general supervision to various personnel within the Company involved with certain activities in the special process audit function. Responsibilities:
  • Perform scheduled Special Process Audits (assessments) at Moog and Supplier facilities assuring compliance with technical specification and contract requirements.
  • Facilitate special process audits at Moog facilities while incorporating a team approach with support auditors.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment, handle project assignments, and manage normal workload.
  • Generate and assign responsibility for corrective actions and monitor CA responses for timely response and effective root cause identification. Assist process owners with interpreting findings and provide guidance with respect to corrective actions.
  • Present audit results i.e. Findings, Observations in group settings.
  • Maintain and record (Audit) assessment results. Assist in trending data and identifying generic system compliance concerns. Operate and assist in maintaining the special process audit database in a manner to insure uninterrupted, reliable information.
  • Schedule and perform follow-up Audits (assessments), as required, to evaluate effectiveness of corrective action implementations.
  • Develop and maintain Special Process Audit (Assessment) documentation (checklists, procedures, reports) to support Audit (assessment) programs.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of Special Process Technical assessment training programs, techniques, and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of Special Processes and related specifications and procedures.
  • Travel an average of 8-15 (International and Domestic) trips per year to support special process audits and training activities. (Travel schedule may be increased during initial training)
Basic Qualifications:
  • Four year technical degree with two years relevant Special Process experience, or an Associate degree with five years relevant Special Process experience, or a High School Diploma with extensive direct expertise (Ten years minimum) in specific special processes, but not limited to Heat Treatment operations, Wet Processing (Plating) operations, Level 2 or 3 Nondestructive testing (LPI, MPI, UT, ET) operators, Welding (EB, Laser, Orbital) operations or Brazing (Furnace, Induction) operations, Castings, Forgings, Gears manufacturing, etc.
  • Auditing experience. i.e. NADCAP, AS9100, Customer requirements.
  • (Basic) Blueprint reading
  • Microsoft Office applications

Salary Range Transparency:

Torrance, CA $75,000.00-$110,000.00 Annually

Salary Range Disclaimer

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, employee stock purchase plan, an open paid time off policy, and many region-specific benefits.
