DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position in environmental engineering focuses on statewide permitting and related tasks within the Safe Drinking Water (SDW) Program. Key responsibilities include aiding in the development, revision, and maintenance of the Department's design manuals, regulations, and technical guidance pertinent to public water system permitting. A significant aspect of this role involves overseeing the permitting process for out-of-state bottled, vended, retail, and bulk hauling (BVRB) systems. Additionally, the position entails providing training and technical support regarding permitting activities to the regulated community, engineering consultants, and Department personnel. All work is conducted under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer, ensuring adherence to professional standards.

The role typically requires the application and interpretation of regulatory standards, alongside the implementation of established engineering design principles. A solid understanding of public water supply treatment systems and technologies is essential for success in this position. By ensuring that public water systems are effectively planned, designed, constructed, and operated in compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act and its regulations, this role plays a vital part in promoting public health and safety objectives within the SDW Program. If the position is filled as an Environmental Engineering Trainee, the incumbent will undergo a 12-month training period designed to equip them with the necessary skills to fulfill the responsibilities of an Environmental Engineering Specialist, with all work products subject to supervisory review prior to release.
