Development Assistant, Development and Communications

Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Development Assistant provides outstanding support to Project HOPE's Development and Communications Department. Primary responsibilities include assisting the Leadership and Legacy and Development Operations teams with specific projects as well as general administrative support for the department.

The Development Assistant regularly works with colleagues in the Leadership and Legacy team to manage the printing, production and mailing of quarterly appeal letters, legacy society stewardship materials, regular email updates and solicitations to donors, and helps with travel and meeting preparation and donor presentations and briefings. Further support for Leadership and Legacy will include the processing of donor acknowledgement letters, and assistance with internal administration and processing of estate paperwork. This role also serves as backup and surge support for development operations including mail handling, check processing and data entry. This position provides general administrative support, meeting planning and preparation and office operations support to the CDCO and other members of the development and communications department as needed.

As part of their responsibilities, the Development Assistant interacts regularly with internal and external stakeholders, communicating effectively and professionally. They have excellent professional judgement and problem-solving skills and can be trusted to exercise a high level of discretion with confidential information.

This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious self-starter looking to learn multiple aspects of development and communications. This role requires the ability to juggle many tasks, prioritize, and to work independently as well as within a team.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Represents Project HOPE in a professional manner in all interactions with colleagues, donors and stakeholders.
  • Manages print, production and mailing of appeals and stewardship pieces. Interacts with mail shop and insures adherence to schedule and quality.
  • Assists in creation of email appeals, stewardship pieces and newsletters.
  • Supports fundraisers with donor visits by helping with itineraries, travel plans, collateral material and presentation creation and serves as backup for donor research.
  • Helps with mail processing in the DC office, including donation data entry, check log maintenance, creation of back up copies and processing with finance team.
  • Performs data hygiene duties in RaisersEdge NXT, including change of address updates and other routine tasks.
  • Assists with planning department-wide meetings both virtually and in person, including annual retreat.
  • Supports CDCO in creation of data reports from RaisersEdge NXT, presentations in PowerPoint for internal and external audiences, and other communications and collateral materials as needed.
  • Supports CDCO shipping/mailing and signatory needs.
  • Arrange travel logistics as requested by CDCO.
  • Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Exceptional attention to detail and oral and written communication skills
  • Highly organized, professional, and self-motivated, able to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Intermediate or higher proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Able to work in ambiguous environment, juggle competing needs and move rapidly on requests and deliverables
  • Demonstrated experience adhering to confidentiality with sensitive information
  • Passion for international relief and development work

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience preferred
  • Experience managing mailshops and print vendors a bonus
  • Experience with data entry and reporting in a CRM database such as NetForum, Raiser's Edge NXT, or similar

  • Typical office environment with exposure to a minimal noise level.
  • Emergency deployments may be in resource-deprived environments with austere living conditions.
  • Travel for extended periods may be by air and/or other modes of transportation.
  • While international travel is not a regular part of every job, programmatic needs may require it intermittently.
  • Project HOPE employees may be required to travel or work in countries where working conditions are classified as "hardship."



Salary range starting at $53,000 USD per year based on candidates residing in the US. Compensation for the role is dependent on several factors including a candidate's location, qualifications, skills, and experience.
