Summary
|
Michigan Technological University seeks an Academic Advisor to provide academic and career advising for students in the Electrical and Computer Engineering baccalaureate programs. This position will assist students with their course schedules, degree schedules and the transferring of credits from other universities/colleges. The position evaluates previous course work regarding degree requirements for the ECE Department undergraduate programs.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties
|
- In collaboration with other advising staff, advise students in electrical engineering, computer engineering, and robotics engineering baccalaureate programs, electrical engineering minor and the Certificate in Electric Power Engineering, providing guidance in all aspects of their programs of study.
- Assist students with semester planning and course registration conflicts, including filled sections, waivers, wait lists, etc.
- Promote student success by collaborating with campus services including Career Services, Student Mental Health and Well-being, Waino Wahtera Center for Student Success, writing and learning centers, etc. to assist students in areas such as career advising, study skills and time management.
- Review transfer courses from other colleges for applicability to the electrical engineering, computer engineering and robotics engineering degree requirements and incorporate into ECE student academic plans.
- Carefully review degree audits, graduation requirements and previous coursework for ECE major programs.
- Assist with creation of departmental marketing and promotional materials such as undergraduate and graduate program brochures.
- Cooperate with the Registrar's Office in maintaining student records.
- Coordinate and participate in First-Year Orientation, and conduct first-year advising meetings.
- Disseminate current academic policies and procedures.
- Participate in program assessment and provide support for accreditation of degree programs.
- Assist with the creation and updates of department web pages, flowcharts and other advising material.
- Participate in the selection process for scholarships and awards to department students.
- Participate in appropriate departmental and university level committees.
- Participate in outreach events and serve as a backup for Academic Advisor and Outreach Specialist position.
- Other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
|
Bachelor's degree that can be applicable to the essential duties & responsibilities of the position.

Required Experience
|
- One year professional or administrative experience.
- Experience working in undergraduate higher education student services, or closely related area.
- Demonstrated experience working with students with different backgrounds.
- Experience using personal computers and basic software packages including word processing and spreadsheet software.

Desirable Education and/or Experience
|
* Master's degree. * One year professional electrical or computer engineering experience. * Experience in advising undergraduate students. * Experience using desktop publishing and BANNER software
|
