Essential Job Duties
Uplift PLUS is an intensive, 2-week summer academic enrichment and college readiness program for rising high school seniors. During the program, participants live on campus, take an essay writing course, participate in cultural competence workshops, and interact with campus partners and offices. Participants also engage in college application prep, leadership development, and experiential learning opportunities.

Job Description:
Uplift PLUS Counselors are vital members of the team who serve as positive role models for prospective Carolina students, promote participant engagement in scheduled activities, foster an inclusive and safe residential environment, and support the operations of the Uplift PLUS program. Uplift PLUS Counselors work under the supervision and direction of the Assistant Director for Student Access, Success, and Engagement.
Counselor Core Responsibilities:
o Serve as a positive role model for prospective Carolina students
o Foster community, inclusion, and belonging among program participants through interaction and engagement
o Serve as a source of information regarding UNC-Chapel Hill, campus resources, and student life
o Observe, address, and respond to participant needs; communicates any issues or concerns to professional staff members
o Assist with administrative tasks as delegated by professional staff
o This is a residential, live-in position. Uplift PLUS counselors are required to live on-campus in the designated dormitory throughout the duration of the program.

The dates for 2025 Uplift PLUS are July 6-19, 2025. Counselors are expected to be present and actively engaged in mandatory program sessions.

We have two shifts available:

Day Shift:
7:00 AM - 3:00 PM
Afternoon Shift: 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM

Other Work/Responsibilities
The following is a summary of expected duties. The list is not comprehensive and additional duties may be assigned at any time during appointment.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a resource and positive role model for program participants
  • Be available for the full duration of Uplift PLUS (July 6-19, 2025), including evenings and weekends, and attend all required training sessions
  • Actively and appropriately participate in scheduled events, including:

    • Small and large group activities
    • Evening and weekend programming
    • Campus partner sessions



  • Reside in the residence hall with program participants and participate in an on-call rotation throughout the program
  • Complete all required program and employee trainings

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Critical thinking and creative problem-solving abilities
  • Effective and ethical decision-making skills
  • Strong time management, particularly in coordinating participant activities
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion
  • Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively in group settings
  • Working knowledge of University resources
  • Willingness to fully comply with all University policies, especially those related to the Protection of Minors

Minimum Experience/Education

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited University
