Position Description:

The Tooling Engineer will develop press tooling design, techniques, procedures, fixtures and application to produce high quality parts as cost effectively as possible

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  1. Plans and formulates engineering program and organizes project staff according to project requirements. Assigns project personnel to specific phases or aspects of projects.
  2. Works with corporate sales in quoting new tooling programs for future business.
  3. Reviews product, tooling and equipment design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards, customer contract requirements and related specifications.
  4. Coordinates activities with toolmakers, vendors or other departments concerning tooling and equipment procurement or modification.
  5. Works with customers and quality assurance in resolving design and test problems. Evaluates and approves design changes, specifications and drawing releases.
  6. Controls expenditures within limitations of project budget.
  7. Helps troubleshoot difficult tooling, equipment and quality issues in conjunction with Tool Makers and orders Toolroom supplies (details, springs, punches etc)
  8. Analyzes and plans workforce utilization, space requirements, workflow and design layout of equipment and work space form maximum efficiency.


Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no direct supervisory responsibility.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • two to five years tooling/project engineering experience in a metal stamping environment (preferably in a tier one automotive supplier)
  • Experience with progressive and transfer stamping dies, up to 1500 tons
  • Tool and Die Journeyman highly preferred



Skills and Abilities


  • Must be proficient with MicroSoft Excel to develop spreadsheets and Timing plans
  • Microsoft Power-Point for presentations
  • Needs a working knowledge of basic accounting principles to develop improvements that require a business plan.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Proficient with AutoCad or other Drafting programs
