Description & Requirements
Broad Clinical Labs at the Broad Institute of MIT & Harvard are seeking a highly motivated and technically exceptional individual to work in the change management team. The role will involve close coordination with BCL's operational, regulatory, and quality teams as new capabilities are developed and transitioned into production environments.
The Associate Director of Production and Process Improvement will role will work closely with BCL's new cell factory that will span the full experimental and analytical pipeline-from cell culture and genetic perturbation through single-cell sequencing and bioinformatics. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of functional genomics, be comfortable working cross-functionally with both wet and dry lab teams, and be excited to innovate at the intersection of CRISPR, single-cell biology, and high-throughput screening.
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Brainstorming design, plan, and execute high-throughput Perturb-Seq experiments across diverse cell types and biological systems.
  • Develop and optimize protocols for CRISPR-based perturbations, cell culture, single-cell RNA-seq, and library preparation.
  • Lead development for improved scalability, throughput, and data fidelity.
  • Work with data science teams to analyze Perturb-Seq data and derive actionable insights.
  • Evaluate, validate, and help implement computational pipelines and analytical tools for single-cell and perturbation data
  • Drive experimental strategy and innovation for new R&D directions and platform improvements.
  • Mentor team members and process development associates.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies in functional genomics, single-cell biology, multiomics, and automation.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with multiple Broad teams to align with platform goals.
  • Potentially manage up to 5+ direct reports
Qualifications:
  • MS/PhD in a related field or 10+ years of related experience. Experience managing teams.
  • Hands-on experience with CRISPR-based perturbation methods, single-cell RNA-seq, and cell culture (including primary or stem cells).
  • Strong understanding of library preparation, pooled screening design, and sequencing workflows.
  • Familiarity with data analysis pipelines for single-cell data.
  • Track record of innovation and problem-solving in complex experimental systems.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects, timelines, and priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, proactive mindset
Bonus Qualifications:
  • Experience with Perturb-Seq, CROP-seq, or other pooled screening modalities.
  • Prior leadership or team management experience.
  • Coding skills (e.g., Python, R, bash) and experience working with bioinformatics tools.
  • Experience with automation or high-throughput liquid handling platforms.
