About the College/Unit/Department |
Part of the Division of Student Affairs, University Housing consists of nearly 2.8 million square feet of facilities and is home to more than 9,000 students. The department employs 220 full-time staff members, 21 graduate assistants and 565 undergraduate student workers. As a self-supporting auxiliary, University Housing operates a $59 million budget derived only from student housing fees and other non-state sources.
In support of its mission to provide comfortable, affordable and secure housing options where the academic success and personal growth of residents are encouraged and supported, University Housing engages staff members in competency-based training and students in curriculum-based engagement focused on community building, interpersonal skills, social awareness and responsibility, and well-being. |

Position Summary |
The primary function of this position is to execute a variety of cleaning tasks throughout residential communities housing 1,200 or more residents. This position also includes scheduled summer tasks, transitions and the cleaning of rotating camps, conferences and student orientations. The position performs duties necessary to uphold communication and customer service with a variety of peers, residents and other departmental stakeholders. It performs periodic duties during weekend and holiday shifts and on-call operations to uphold the standards of care for a 24-hour, seven-day a week residential program. |
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies |
- Ability to work effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities, while consistently producing accurate work.
- Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with residents, coworkers, and various customer groups.
- Sufficient ability to read the English language to read and comprehend warning labels and official UGA communications.
- Ability to read and write and do basic math in order to complete job duties.
- Ability to use technology to access UGA sites such as OneSource and email.
- Ability to remain composed when verbally communicating with residents.
- Ability to safely use various types of equipment, tools, and products for carpet cleaning and extraction, floor stripping and waxing, and flood mitigation.
- Available to work specified shift.
- Available to work Saturday, Sunday, or after hours as needed.
- Establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships.

- Climb stairs and ladders. May work from a ladder.
- Bend at the waist and knees.
- Work with arms and hands overhead for an extended period.

- Lift and move items at least 50 pounds in weight, both assisted and unassisted.
- Perform work related duties indoors with steam and humidity or hot/cold conditions and work outdoors in various seasons and weather conditions.

Cleaning and Related Duties
- Thoroughly clean, disinfect, and sanitize all areas of the residence halls, including but not limited to bathrooms, flooring, furniture, kitchens, laundry rooms and machines, and common areas.
- Remove trash and recyclables and clean trash cans and recycle bins.
- Maintain a supply of soap, toilet tissue, paper towels, hand sanitizer, etc., in restrooms, kitchens, breakrooms, and public space.
- Track and maintain custodial supplies.
- Participate in the Residential Building Services on-call program as needed.
- Perform thorough cleaning in vacant apartments, townhomes, and single-family homes, per weekly occupancy/vacancy reports.

- Perform summer project work assignments including annual deep cleaning of the residence halls.
- Participate in the moving of stock items (i.e., bed ends, bed springs, dressers, etc.)
