Posting Summary |
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a
FIGS Coordinator for the Office of Career Exploration and Success. This position supports the administration of the First-Year Interest Group Seminars (
FIGS), one-credit seminars for first-year students that are developed and taught by Rutgers juniors and seniors. In Fall 2025,
FIGS will enroll more than 2,100 first-year students in 80+ sections of the
FIGS course.
FIGS Coordinators will help to train and supervise Peer Instructors who have developed a ten-week course for first-year students to explore an academic interest/career area, discover the wide array of resources available at Rutgers, and connect with students, faculty and staff connected to their course subject. The position will report to one of the Assistant Directors for First-Year Career Engagement and the Associate Director of First-Year Career Engagement.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Completes departmental and team trainings.
- Represents FIGS and CES at New Student Orientation (NSO) Information Fair.
- Approves FIGS course lesson plans and syllabi, and meets with Peer Instructors as needed.
- Contributes content to and supports the coordination of a 3-day student leadership training (August 25-27, 2025).
- Supervises a cohort of FIGS Peer Instructors as they teach their courses.
- Provides administrative oversight for sections of FIGS (e.g., attendance record-keeping, grading, logistics, etc.).
- Presents CES content in FIGS class presentations.
- Conducts class observations and office hours.
- Supports the recruitment and interview process for Fall 2026 Peer Instructors.
- Completes individual projects to support the FIGS program including ongoing supervision of Peer Instructors and/or Senior Peer Instructors, support of the 3-credit Peer Instructor Education (PI Ed course), marketing and assessment initiatives.
- Supports CES Career Fairs and major events.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Previous teaching experience and/or experience with the FIGS program.
- Past supervision experience with student leaders on a college campus.
- Understanding of the first-year experience and college transition concerns.
- Experience with Canvas course site management, Smartsheet.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
- Past experience working with student leaders on a college campus.
- Comfort with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel. Attention to detail.
- Clear communication skills.
