Job Overview:

In collaboration with Hospital Administration and the Medical Staff, provides planning, direction, leadership, negotiation and integrating for Medical Staff functions/activities in accordance with medical staff bylaws, and Hospital policies and procedures. Serves as a key member of senior management who has administrative responsibility for the practice of medicine at the Hospital. Responsibilities encompass not only the internal functioning of the departments within the Designated Institutional Official's (DIO's) division, but also the integration, coordination, and direction of care/services into the overall functioning of the Hospital. Participates with hospital leaders in formulating strategic planning and accomplishing institutional goals and objectives while serving as a liaison between the medical staff and administration. Demonstrates administrative responsibility for the quality of care, medical education and utilization of resources and the hospital departments that support those functions.

Serves as the Designated Institutional Official (DIO) for Graduate Medical Education (GME) in collaboration with the facility/Sponsoring Institution (SI), Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) has authority and responsibility for the oversight and administration of each of the facility/SI ACGME-accredited GME Programs. Acting as Chair of the GMEC, the DIO ensures that all ACGME Annual GMEC responsibilities are realized including but not limited to preparing/writing the Annual Institutional Review (AIR) report with submission to the facility/SI Board of Governors each December, completing the ACGME Annual Update for the facility/SI and reviewing and approving each GME Programs' ACGME Annual Update. Responsibilities extend to proposal of revised GME Program Budgets to ensure continued adequate financial support for GME Program administration and education. The DIO ensures that the facility/SI and all related GME Programs the facility/institution sponsor, are in substantial compliance with ACGME Institutional, Common, specialty-/subspecialty-specific Program requirements as well as with ACGME Policies and Procedures.

Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) activities for the facility/Sponsoring Institution fall under the oversight of the DIO with responsibility for monitoring the ratio of visiting medical students to residents/fellows to appropriately support continued excellence in education for all trainees, with priority placed on the facility/SI GME residents/fellows. The DIO must also ensure that affiliated medical school educational agreements meet both the facility/SI, corporate GME and corporate general counsel leadership approval prior to execution.

Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution required.

  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in Graduate Medical Education (GME) required.

    8-10 years of experience preferred.
