The Opportunity

Our Commercial Marketing Analytics Team is looking to add a Power Fundamentals Specialist to help support the growth of our non-regulated affiliate Natural Gas, Power and Emissions marketing and trading business, based in Calgary, AB or Houston, TX.

The Commercial Marketing Analytics Team is responsible for fundamental, quantitative, and valuations support of the trading and origination groups and information support for the risk and finance teams, and this position will provide fundamental analysis of energy markets with an eye on energy transition.

What you'll do

• Establish processes, systems and models that are used to develop medium to long-term forecasts for power, gas and emissions that help drive investment decisions for strategy and origination efforts of new projects
• Act as a subject matter expert on emerging market dynamics, policy evolutions, alternative technologies, and macro trends to develop consensus on key fundamental indicators
• Maintain positive relationships with third-party vendors and leverage information and analysis that they provide to maximize productivity in delivering long-term fundamentals
• Present and defend fundamental analysis and price outlooks to stakeholders and senior leadership
• Support automation efforts for key model inputs and outputs and coordinate database management with other staff
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field
• 10 years related experience
• 5 years of specific fundamentals analytics experience
• Demonstrated understanding of power, natural gas, and emissions market fundamentals and regulations in US and Canada
• Proven ability to develop forecasts that may be contrary to consensus
• Proven track record of being able to transform fundamental research into salient, actionable analysis/advice
• Familiarity with research tools such as Wood Mackenzie, S&P Global, and Bloomberg
• Experience working with commercial production cost and market simulations software
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and relational database platforms such as SQL
• Experience managing dynamic workflow and multiple projects
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's or Ph.D. in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field
• Strong experience using one or more scientific programming languages such as Python, or R
• Proficiency in report building and data visualization tools: Power BI, Tableau, etc.
• Exposure to contract administration, project finance, and other commercial engagements
• Knowledge of energy transition technologies such as hydrogen, carbon capture, and energy storage
• Experience modeling the Eastern Interconnection or Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT)
