About the College of Health and Human Sciences

The Department of Nursing is housed within the College of Health and Human Sciences (CHHS). CHHS embraces inclusivity and an orientation to lifelong learning to prepare diverse students for interculturally competent practice, research, and leadership in their disciplines. Through collaboration and engagement with the community and one another, faculty, staff, and students lead transformative and justice-oriented endeavors to secure the health and well-being of people and their communities.

As a newly established college within the university, CHHS serves about 4,500 undergraduate and graduate students across 8 academic departments and the Health Institute.

Position Summary

The Department of Nursing at MSU Denver is hiring a Clinical Placement Manager. The Clinical Placement Manager assumes a leadership role in establishing partnerships between the Department of Nursing and clinical facilities for the purpose of securing quality placements for all students in the nursing program, creating a clinical calendar, which involves aligning and coordinating schedules from faculty, hospitals, and the nursing department course schedules. Changes to pre-arranged clinical placement dates and times occur frequently, which requires quick action to reschedule.

Additional responsibilities include clinical placement analysis and assessment, participation in activities required for program accreditation and Colorado State Board of Nursing approval, recruiting qualified clinical faculty in collaboration with lead faculty and the Department Chair, and operational management of clinical placements.

Responsibilities

Program Support

  • Supervision of full-time staff position and student employees.
  • Assist in hiring, training, onboarding, mentoring and orienting new staff members.

Student Clinical Placements

  • Provide leadership as the primary liaison with Colorado hospitals and health-care facilities for the MSU Denver Nursing Department.
  • Responsible for the creation, identification of new potential agencies, and maintaining existing clinical agency partners that would meet the necessary educational requirements for nursing students.
  • Collaborate with clinical agencies to procure and maintain clinical placements.
  • Collaborate with Nursing Faculty & Department Chair to evaluate and place students in agencies for appropriate learning experiences.
  • Represent the Department Chair in all placement negotiations.
  • Initiate and manage clinical schedules and calendars for the department.
  • Create and manage all databases related to student placements including tracking appropriate documentation to comply with regulations required by hospitals.
  • Create, track, and manage departmental clinical affiliation and clinical scholar agreements in accordance with state regulations.
  • Create an up-to-date calendar of requested placements, placement status, and potential clinical placement sites.
  • Collaborate with the full-time faculty and Department Chair to develop program clinical placement policies.
  • Continue to collaborate with clinical agencies to maintain existing longitudinal placement program and identify possible new longitudinal contracts for nursing student placements.
  • Conduct student orientations about longitudinal placement opportunities to incoming nursing cohorts.
  • Manage applications, interview schedules, and onboarding paperwork for students pursuing longitudinal placements in collaboration with the clinical agency.

Affiliate Faculty Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Department Chair, develop and execute a marketing strategy to increase the number and quality of affiliate faculty applicants.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies

  • Effective organizational, time management, and negotiation skills
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Office
  • Computer and technological proficiency with the ability to learn new systems, software, and tools such as My Clinical Exchange and Banner

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Experience networking and building relationships/partnerships
  • Experience with database management
  • Experience with creating and maintaining complex calendars

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous work experience in a higher education or health care environment
  • Experience with affiliate faculty recruitment
  • Experience acting as a liaison between two or more institutions, businesses, or organizations
  • Experience with regulatory agencies and policies
  • Experience with complex calendaring and scheduling in a health care related field
  • Experience with state regulations in relationship to clinical affiliate and clinical scholar agreements
  • Experience with conflict resolution

Schedule Information

  • Full-time
  • Exempt
  • Days of Week: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
  • Evenings and Weekend Work: Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed on rare occasions
  • Schedule: Hybrid schedule with in person work as well as some remote opportunities subject to program needs and supervisor approval
  • Travel: Local travel for clinical site visits

Salary for Announcement

Under Colorado law, MSU Denver is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account a variety of factors including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The full salary range for this position is $57,600 - $96,200. The anticipated hiring range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $70,000 - $80,000.

This position is paid monthly and is eligible for MSU Denver benefits.
