Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The College of Health and Human Services ( CHHS) at the University of North Carolina Wilmington ( UNCW) seeks a dynamic, creative, and visionary academic leader for the position of Associate Dean of Research and Faculty Affairs. The Associate Dean of Research and Faculty Affairs will provide vision, leadership and direction for the research and faculty affairs missions of the College of Health and Human Services ( CHHS).

The successful candidate must be a scholar with a history of successful external funding for research and/or service projects (preferably with federal and non-federal agencies and organizations) and a demonstrated history of leading initiatives associated with faculty workload priorities, annual reviews, developing and maintaining effective and interprofessional scholarship, and mentoring for reappointment, tenure, and promotion. While the successful candidate will have the opportunity to conduct research, this position will focus on supporting and mentoring others to be successful with their research initiatives and other roles as faculty members.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in a discipline housed within the College (or closely aligned with a discipline housed within the College) and must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure.
  • A strong teaching record and a scholarly record suitable for tenure at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
  • Strong communication, management, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated success in teambuilding and faculty/staff development, supervision, and mentoring, with a strong commitment to collaborative leadership and shared governance.
  • A successful record of effective administrative leadership and personnel management.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience with interprofessional and/or transdisciplinary approaches to research and education within health and human services.
  • Proven success as a leader and supervisor of direct reports.
  • Demonstrated experience working with programs across multiple academic disciplines, colleges and/or campuses.
  • Visibility as a scholar.
  • Proven success across the teaching, research, and service missions of the college.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring faculty toward promotion and success in the college and effective teamwork with other administrators.
  • Evidence of one's ability to lead change within the academic setting is necessary.

The College of Health and Human Services was created in July 2010 to provide UNCW with a new mechanism to link and focus its health-related research, professional continuing education, and health knowledge dissemination and application. In the formative stage of development, the CHHS is currently home to three professional schools: the School of Health and Applied Human Sciences, the School of Nursing, and the School of Social Work. The College seeks to be nationally recognized for its inter-professional and collaborative approach to enhancing the health and quality of life of individuals, families, and communities in southeastern North Carolina and beyond.
