Job Summary

The Project Manager will work under the direction of the Director of Patient Safety Adult Services, within the Department of Quality & Pt Safety (DoQS) to manage the programming, planning, implementation and monitoring of UCSF Health-wide projects, initiatives and ongoing efforts like Leapfrog surveys, Culture of Safety surveys, Event Management, Patient Safety Week, Caring for the Caregiver, Schwartz Rounds etc.
In partnership with the DoQS leadership team and designated physician leads, the Project Manager ensures the completion of projects within budget, on schedule, and meets all program objectives and appropriate regulations. Responsible for planning, scheduling, assigning, and overseeing the work of project participants and assigned project leads. Manages, assesses, and documents project scope and program, describing the objectives, resource requirements, risks and benefits of the project, timelines and tracks and communicates ongoing performance.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $102,400 - $156,000 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The Department of Quality & Safety consists of Adult Quality & Safety, Benioff Children's Hospitals (BCH) Quality & Safety, Hospital Epidemiology & Infection Prevention, Analytics & Clinical Effectiveness and Clinical Documentation Integrity. The teams are made of multidisciplinary professionals with diverse backgrounds. The role of the Department is the support UCSF Health to deliver safe, equitable and high-quality care to the communities we serve.

Patient Safety is a division within the Quality and Patient Safety Department. The focus of the Patient Safety division is preventing, mitigating, or reducing harm from medical errors and system defects. Activities include risk surveillance and analysis of potential or actual medical errors and hazardous conditions, and process improvement to prevent future adverse events.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in healthcare or other related profession, or a combination of comparable clinical education and / or experience.
  • 3 years of progressively responsible experience in process and/or quality analysis/improvement, project management or related, with at least one (1) year of relevant healthcare experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of common organizational- or research-specific and other computer application programs.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and influence, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Advanced project management skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of organizational or initiative processes, protocols and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Master's degree in healthcare or other profession, or a combination of comparable clinical education and/or experience
  • Lean / Six Sigma
