A Brief Overview:
The Cancer Registrar (Oncology Data Specialist) plays a critical role in the accurate collection, management, and analysis of cancer-related data, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and contributing to the hospital's mission to provide superior cancer care

What you will do:

• Collect and abstract complex patient data from various sources, including medical records, pathology reports, and clinical documents, following established protocols.

• Assign and review cancer staging codes using the TNM classification system, demonstrating advanced proficiency in cancer staging.
• Maintain the accuracy and completeness of cancer-related data in the cancer registry database system. Conduct periodic audits to ensure data quality and consistency.
• Implement quality control measures and perform regular data audits to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and adherence to standards.
• Provide guidance and training to Cancer Registrar I staff, helping them improve their skills and knowledge in cancer data collection and management.
• Collaborate closely with healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, pathologists, and other clinical staff, to ensure comprehensive and accurate cancer data capture.
• Assist in conducting research projects and studies related to cancer outcomes, epidemiology, and treatment effectiveness, contributing to evidence-based care.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and security of patient data, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and other privacy regulations.

What you will need:

• Associate's Degree required, Bachelor's Degree preferred
• Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) certification from the National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) required (candidates who are eligible or pursuing eligibility for the certification exam are encouraged to apply)
