A Brief Overview
Under the direction of a supervising physician, the Physician Assistant is responsible for the direct care and follow up of a population of patients that match his/her Scope of Practice and skill set. The components of the role include clinical practice, consultation, professional development, education, and research.

The Physician Assistant will partner with the Neuromuscular surgeons to expand non-surgical clinic access in the ambulatory clinics. The Physician Assistant will also represent Orthopedic Surgery in the Multidisciplinary clinics.

What you will do

  • Utilizes advanced assessment skills to manage a cohort of patients. Performs and documents daily assessments. Collects and analyzes data and formulates a family-centered plan of care. Evaluates and monitors the effectiveness of the prescribed treatment plan. Communicates the plan of care and changes to this plan to the supervising physician.
  • Performs any needed advanced procedures that are listed in the Scope of Practice document and approved as a part of the credentialing process.
  • Acts as a consultant to multidisciplinary healthcare team members.
  • Participates in scholarly activities including research and education. Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate educational offerings. Participates in the professional development of others and serves as an educational resource to the patient/family, nursing staff and provider team. Acts as a preceptor and mentor to support the development of physician assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, students and other health care providers.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patient safety by speaking up about safety issues and changing practices to enhance safety. Shares errors or potential errors through system reporting mechanisms. Demonstrates shared accountability for safe practice.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Physician Assistant. Employees hired and placed in position previous to 09/03/23 are only required to have technical diploma. Required

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work in a team setting with multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to use computer and electronic medical records effectively.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Licensed Physician Assistant - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required or
  • Licensed Physician Assistant - New Jersey State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required and
  • Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) - National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants - upon hire - Required and
  • Prescriptive Authority (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - within 3 months - Required or
  • Prescriptive Authority (New Jersey) - New Jersey State Licensing Board - within 3 months - Required and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Required and
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - upon hire - Required and
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - - Preferred
