Technology and Operations Chief of Staff
The Technology and Operations Chief of Staff is a key leadership position within the Technology and Operations Division reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO). This position is responsible for driving operational efficiency while aligning to Tech and Ops strategic objectives.
The role encompasses business management responsibilities including the creation and oversight of management routines, metrics and reporting. The leader will develop, with input from stakeholders, Objectives and Key Results, Key Performance Indicators, and Key Risk Indicators to ensure alignment, accountability, and sustained performance throughout the Division. The Chief of Staff will work closely with senior leaders and / or teams to ensure strategies and solutions are crafted and executed effectively, communications are clear, and issues are addressed immediately. This includes oversight and management of program or project implementation plans to ensure milestones are identified, socialized, prioritized, and completed on time and within budget.
Position Responsibilities
Strategic Support
- Prioritize and execute strategic initiatives across Tech and Ops or those that span multiple businesses.
- Provide insights on performance, risks (existing or emerging), etc. to inform strategic direction.
- Synthesize inputs from key stakeholders to help shape and craft strategies, as well as assist in execution of associated actions.
- Act as a single point of contact to quickly and effectively pull in the appropriate front line or leadership resources to meet desired objectives.
- Identify solutions, provide guidance and support on initiatives that span Tech and Ops or across divisions.
- Partner directly with COO to actively speak on behalf of the leader and contribute to the way Tech and Ops operates and executes.
- Active coordination with Executive Leadership and colleagues for awareness, advocacy and/or adoption.
- Direct and ensure execution of LOB activities and projects to achieve maximum organizational efficiency. Work with executives and department heads to establish goals, policies and procedures and offer assistance as needed.
HR and Financial Management
- Responsible for selecting, motivating, and retaining high performing talent, cultivating a spirit of teamwork and continuous improvement with shared goals and objectives.
- Supports the development and growth of direct reports through on-going direction, coaching and performance management.
- Manages expenses and budget associate with the team and work managed.
Operational Efficiency
- Promote data-driven decisions based upon analysis, data insights, project status, trends, etc. and deliver via multiple communication vehicles (e.g., PowerPoint).
- Evaluate progress and accomplishments through the review of routine and special reports.
- Create and manage management routines and business performance metrics, including reporting, raising issues from findings, and following up on next steps to improve outcomes. (i.e. Issues management, QBR reporting, etc)
- Evaluate insights and outcomes on topics impacting the division-wide progress (i.e. recognition, expenditures, delegation, etc.)
- Serve as central point of contact to field requests or issues and route to correct stakeholder(s) for action / disposition.
- Support customer experiences ensuring timely resolution of customer inquiry or complaint into the office of the COO helping to minimize disruption and elevate experiences for seamless, distinguished engagement.
Culture Development
- Coordinate with Human Resources and Finance to maximize workforce efficiency including monitoring open headcount, contingent labor, and reallocation of resources as applicable.
- Drive initiatives that promote a strong culture, focusing on leadership development, employee engagement, and high-performing teams.
- Drive and reinforce culture via Communications, Presentations, Townhalls, LOB SharePoint page, Goals and Objectives, Team Meetings, etc.
- Engage with MEC leader to support community activity, board responsibilities and investment/sponsorship engagement on behalf of Comerica.
- Provide overall support for the Voice of the Colleague initiatives both Enterprise themes and progress within Tech and Ops by: advocating for the colleague and monitoring participation in the VOC engagement surveys; and understanding outcomes and tracking completion of improvements plans.
- Ensure branding and messaging of Tech and Ops is clear, effective, and consistent.
- Provide an additional effective line of communication for colleagues to provide ideas and suggestions. Explore viability of various ideas.
- Support the messaging plan and effectiveness of the office in communicating to all lines of colleagues and evaluate ideas for feedback when necessary.
- Act as key liaison with corporate business partners on topics that span the Tech and Ops including Communications, Talent Development, Intern / New College Grad hiring and programs, etc.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited university preferred in Business, Finance, or related field from an accredited university; OR in lieu of a bachelor's degree, a HS diploma or GED and 6 years of Technology or Operations experience and other related experience in the financial services industry
- 10 or more years Experience in reviewing trends, synthesizing information, making recommendations based on findings, analyzing risks, and creating mitigating strategies. Preferably within the financial services industry and/or Technology Operations
- 8 years Experience in analysis and development of policies, standards, regulatory risk, procedures, enterprise level performance-based reporting, and executive level communications
- 5 years Professional experience leading initiatives with multiple groups, executives and stakeholders
- 5 years Experience in the writing and developing of executive level communications
- 5 years Experience in business performance metrics and reporting
Work Best Category: Category C - Days in the office will either be designated days or will vary week to week from 2-5 days
Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday
