Overview
Colliers Engineering & Design is looking for a Railroad Bridge Inspection Geographic Discipline Lead to join our Rail Engineering team! The successful candidate will be able to oversee project deliverables, build & maintain relationships with current and future clients, and mentor & support junior engineering & project management staff. Offering a full range of rail planning, design and engineering services to Class 1, short line, transit agencies, departments of transportation and other rail clients, our expertise ranges from preliminary planning and feasibility studies through final design and construction inspection. This includes service for rail freight, intercity passenger rail, commuter rail and industrial installations. Our rail and transit experts bring broad industry expertise to every project and have extensive experience in the Class 1 and short line freight railroad environment and provide engineering and design for commuter rail, light rail, bus transit and para-transit operations.
Responsibilities
- Performs duties in support of the direction and vision of the overall discipline.
- Oversees, directs and manages the work effort of assigned staff.
- Collaborate with other GDL's within the region and with the Regional Discipline Leader.
- Responsible for productivity, profitability, client satisfaction and quality of work.
- Active involvement with marketing and business development.
- Responsible for proposal development and contract execution.
- Responsible for billings and collections.
- Monitors work backlog and the sharing of work within the region and discipline.
- Actively involved in the cross selling of all company services.
- Reviews staff utilization regularly to address employees not meeting utilization goals.
- Ensures compliance with and enforces company Health & Safety policies and procedures.
- Serve as a resource for project managers and staff on assigned projects and manage completion of projects regarding scope, schedule, quality, and budget.
- Provide staff/managers with technical assistance and supervision in the preparation of proposals and contracts for assigned projects.
- Coordinate and work closely with accounting/billing to develop and review project invoices, monitoring those of assigned billing managers.
- Complete all billing in a timely manner.
- Manage the financial aspects of assigned team(s) and monitor the performance of the business to meet or exceed revenue and/or profit goals.
- Assist with project manager's efforts to prepare for and/or attend client/agency meetings with, or for PMs to present information pertinent to the project.
- Develop innovative, comprehensive multimedia support materials for client and/or agency meetings.
- Develop the skills and abilities of staff which are necessary for successful execution of work duties.
- Serve as a mentor and coach staff.
- Assist with the quality control/quality assurance efforts on all assigned projects.
- Manage the performance of all assigned staff, conduct performance evaluations, provide input for all raise and bonus discussions.
- Provide and monitor performance goals for assigned staff.
- Meet with assigned staff to provide feedback and review job performance on a regular basis.
- Address any performance issues on a timely basis and work with HR as needed to create performance improvement plans.
Qualifications
- 10 plus years' experience in Railroad Bridge Engineering/Project Management.
- 7+ years of experience with preparing proposals, developing budgets, tracking budgets and the associated financial management skills necessary to run a team and monitor the performance of the business.
- Prior experience in the Class 1 and short line freight railroad environment to provide bridge inspection and design services.
- Prior experience with business development, client relations, and mentoring junior staff highly required.
- Ability to interact well with coworkers, clients, and regulatory agencies.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical and judgment capabilities.
- Ability to work independently, as well as, in a team environment.
- Must be able to comply with 49 CFR Part 219 Drug and Alcohol Testing.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
