Description

Performs professional work and clinic management in the administration of public health nutrition and WIC services for individuals, families, and community groups; oversees and maintains daily operations, activities, and partnership with Children's Health Clinic/Resource Connect. Delivers services to clients by determining eligibility, issuing benefits, providing nutrition education, high risk counseling and breastfeeding support, offering referrals for resources, and developing and monitoring individual care plans.


Duties

  • Manages partnership and clinic site with Children's Health Clinic/Resource Connect to provide WIC services to patients referred from providers. Coordinates and oversees all aspects of the WIC Program, manages own workload, schedule, and referrals to ensure meeting clinic operations and processes in partnership with providers
  • Defines job roles and responsibilities, sets work expectations, including daily work activities and ensures accountability
  • Provides professional public health nutrition services; assesses clients' nutritional status across the life span; consults with health care providers regarding clients' nutritional needs; makes appropriate referrals to clinical staff, and other primary care providers. Coordinates care activities among caregivers. Documents and maintains client records. Certifies clients as appropriate.
  • Schedules client appointments consistent with the issuance of WIC Benefits; performs health assessments; issues WIC Food Benefits according to client needs.
  • Provides counseling and develops nutrition care plans for high-risk clients and families regarding nutritional needs, taking into consideration income, cultural food patterns, home facilities, and other psychosocial factors.
  • Oversees group nutrition classes for clients; assists in preparing and reviewing educational materials.
  • Responds to and resolves complaints, issues, and concerns regarding clients, care providers, and referral agencies.
  • Complies with County confidentiality policies and demonstrates accountability for the proper use of clients' protected health information
  • Stays abreast of trends and developments in public health nutrition including but not limited to pre/perinatal, breastfeeding, infant, and early childhood nutrition.
  • Interprets and disseminates current scientific information. Applies evidence-based guidelines and best practices to daily activities.

Emergency Preparedness and Response:
  • Responds, as required, to support public health emergencies, incidents, and events. Employee participates in all exercises and drills on emergency preparedness and response, as required. Completes trainings identified as appropriate for this level employee and initiates corrective actions and responses pursuant to Federal, State, and Local laws, statutes, and regulations.

Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
  • All Senior WIC Educator skills, abilities, and competencies
  • Effective interviewing and counseling techniques.
  • Routine software and business applications including, but not limited to, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and databases.
  • Proficiently administer height, weight, and measuring devices and perform finger stick blood tests to determine hemoglobin/hematocrit levels.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in foods and nutrition, dietetics, or a related field including coursework that meets the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) Standards of Education and Standards of Performance for dietetic registration. Completion of dietetic internship and have passed RD exam or be RD eligible. Must pass RD Exam within six months of hire.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in foods and nutrition, dietetics, or a related field including coursework that meets the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) Standards of Education and Standards of Performance for dietetic registration.
  • Bilingual skills
  • Colorado WIC experience

Supplemental Information

Pre-Employment Additional Requirements:

  • Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes a background check and motor vehicle check (MVR).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is generally confined to a standard office environment.
  • In-person at Child Health Clinic, and some remote time at home office.
  • This position will be a hybrid position with at least two (2) days in person.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Spends 90% of the time sitting and 10% of the time either upright or walking.
  • Occasionally lifts, carries, pulls or pushes up to 20 lbs.
  • Occasionally uses cart, dolly, or other equipment to carry in excess of 20 lbs.
  • Occasionally climbs, stoops, kneels, balances, reaches, crawls and crouches while performing office or work duties.
  • Verbal and auditory capacity enabling constant interpersonal communication through automated devices, such as telephones, radios, and similar; and in public meetings and personal interactions.
  • Constant use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of automated office machinery or equipment.
  • Visual capacity enabling constant use of computer or other work-related equipment.
Definitions:
Occasionally: Activity exists less than 1/3 of the time.
Frequently: Activity exists between 1/3 and 2/3 of the time.
Constantly: Activity exists more than 2/3 of the time.
