Job Summary:

Summary:

The Clinical Informaticist collaborates with organizational leaders and system end users, across the continuum of care to support the successful clinical transformation, IT governance, adoption, and interoperability of clinical systems. The Clinical Informaticist, with guidance from Senior and Lead Clinical Informaticists, engages in IT projects and optimizations by utilizing process improvement and change management methodologies to carry out operational readiness strategies.

Clinical Informaticists identify, analyze, explain, and use data to illustrate barriers to care and inform operational decision making through relevant data collected via the electronic health record or other related systems. They integrate workflow and IT efficiency solutions and optimizations that improve end user satisfaction and adoption, provide clinical decision support, improve patient outcomes, and decrease alert fatigue and documentation burden.

Position Responsibilities:

Clinical Transformation

  • Analyzes, designs, and documents current state and future state workflows that streamline process, and minimize or eliminate points of failure for system users

  • Integrates workflow and IT efficiency solutions and optimizations that improve end user satisfaction and adoption, provide clinical decision support, improve patient outcomes, and decrease alert fatigue and documentation burden.

  • Carry out clinical transformation and operational readiness strategies to define and deliver technology solutions

  • Support the implementation and optimization of IT applications and new systems through the design, build, testing, training, implementation, and sustainability phases

  • Conduct operational readiness activities and at-the-elbow support for rollout and maintenance of ongoing projects and optimizations

  • Ensure safe and effective use of IT clinical applications. Support downtime readiness.

System optimization

  • Work with operations leadership to optimize the clinical and operational work environment and provide ongoing support in all clinical systems employed by their customers

  • In an ongoing manner, process map all important customer work streams, identifying

inefficiencies and bottlenecks, and mobilizing appropriate improvement resources

  • Proactively identify/escalate user needs and operational issues that impact workflow or project success.

  • Assists with projects and upgrades as necessary following all project management standards.

  • Monitors Informatics service now cue and collaborates with various IT and operational departments to identify customer problems, troubleshoot issues, and recommend IT solutions and options

  • Assists with projects and upgrades as necessary following all project management standards.

  • Build and test new configuration in partnership with a Senior application analyst under the clinical builder program.

  • Adheres to IT standards with Problem Management, Change Management, Content Management, available for 24/7 support as needed.

Analytics/Process Improvement

  • Identify, analyze, explain, and use data to illustrate barriers to care and inform operational decision making through relevant data collected via the electronic health record or other related systems

  • Utilize adoption and efficiency data (ex. NEAT, Signal, epic benchmark data etc) to identify and inform end user adoption opportunities.

  • Collaborate with data scientists to develop and integrate artificial intelligence and intelligent automation into clinical workflows

  • Identify the need for and advocate for IT system additions, modifications, and

enhancements.

Strategic Partnerships/Governance

  • Seeks out emerging technology industry solutions, innovations through developed relationships with internal customers, Epic community organization, professional organizations, advisory councils, and IT vendors. Is aware of Epic roadmap and best practices.

  • Acts as an IT liaison to customers for migration to a fully digital environment

and the integration of all work flows and devices into the EMR

  • Works with clinical committees and operational leaders, clinicians, and staff on content, policy design, and training.

  • Participate in IT user groups to gain operational input on system usage, requests and optimizations.

  • Provides regular communication to operational customers regarding IT optimizations, projects, downtime preparation and positive returns of IT solutions

  • Perform informatics consultations and outline options and recommendations to identified problems

Program Development

  • Mentors Informatics Liaisons and Informatics students

  • Conducts and disseminates informatics research

  • Educates the organization on technology enabled care

Position Qualifications Required / Experience Required:

4 or more years of clinical practice experience in a healthcare environment (ex. RN, Pharmacist, Physical Therapist, Radiology Technician). Additional experience in Informatics preferred.

Strong analytical / problem solving skills, outstanding communication skills. Demonstrated aptitude or interest in digital systems/tools, and a demonstrated history of top performance.

Required Education:

Masters Degree in Nursing or Clinical Informatics other allied health degree (e.g. Pharmacist, Resp Therapist).

If current degree(s) are not in healthcare or nursing informatics, an approved college level certificate program in healthcare or nursing informatics must be completed within 2 years of hire.

Additional Undergraduate degree or training in IT or computer science preferred

Training/Certifications/Licensure:

Epic Clinical Builder Certification achieved within 6 months of hire in the absence of existing Epic certification in a clinical application (ex. Clinical Documentation, ASAP, Cupid, Orders, Ambulatory,)

Epic certification in a clinical application preferred

Professional Board Certification in informatics (Ex. ANCC) preferred.
