Job Purpose
ABSL Space Products (ABSL) is the world-leading manufacturer of Lithium-ion batteries for space applications. We are seeking talented individuals who have the self-motivation and desire to become world-leaders in their field to join our office in Longmont, Colorado. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering manager with at least 5 years of experience to join a growing international space component supplier.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead team of manufacturing engineers to develop build documentation and support assembly of space Lithium-ion batteries.
- Coordinate with program managers to allocate personnel resources to support multiple programs.
- Work with management team to direct workflow and resources.
- Investigate process and product improvement opportunities and provide change management.
- Perform failure investigations and report and record results to provide resolution options to the team.
- Lead programs as a responsible engineer during manufacturing phase.
- Design, develop and implement manufacturing tooling for battery builds and associated systems.
- Prepare manufacturing documentation and processes to improve quality of products and/or procedures.
- Prepare and present material for assembly readiness reviews and MRB's.
- Represent manufacturing at internal team meetings and customer meetings.
- Review flight hardware part and assembly drawings to ensure design for manufacturability and compliance with NASA standards.
- Develop goals and complete performance evaluations of direct reports.
- Report directly to the Operations Manager.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in resolving engineering, tooling, assembly or fabrication problems.
- Minimum 1 year of management or supervisory experience.
- Experience in product development, manufacturing, lean principles, and continuous improvement.
- Must be a highly motivated self-starter and exhibit the ability/willingness to make decisions at the appropriate level while working well in a team environment and bringing assignments to closure.
- Familiarity of standard concepts, practices, and procedures and equipment within aerospace manufacturing and NASA standards.
- Experience working in clean room environments, under ESD protections, and stored energy safe practices advantageous.
- Knowledge of standards including ISO 9001 or AS9100D and their applications.
- SolidWorks/CAD drafting and design experience.
- Ability to self-manage tasks and responsibilities to achieve deadlines.
- "Off" hours or weekend support may be required.
- A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in a technical discipline such as engineering (Electrical, Aerospace, or Mechanical preferred), math, or physics.
