Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree preferred
  • Demonstrated success in developing training programs designed to support institutional needs
  • Knowledge of best practices and trends in adult learning theory, needs assessment tools, instructional design methods, blended learning strategies
  • 5+ years of experience in administration of training, orientation and/or project management required.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, University of Georgia administrators, and alumni to promote the mission of the university
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience.

Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Learning & Development partners with the Director of Learning & Development to develop and implement a comprehensive learning strategy which supports faculty and staff development as well as the critical business needs for the University of Georgia.
The Assistant Director of Learning & Development leads an effective and motivated team of learning and development specialists who design and develop experiential development opportunities through instructional materials, facilitation workshops, team retreats, and individual coaching for the university community and is responsible for the daily operations of the Learning & Development Team.

The Assistant Director understands the organization's key business drivers in order to function as business partners with university leadership. Is responsible for building trust and respect for the HR Learning & Development program and gain the confidence of others at all levels in the organization.

The Assistant Director will creatively apply professional knowledge, skills and abilities to strategize and plan, coordinate and administer program(s) that:

  1. Identify and proactively respond to trends and their impact on the organization's long-term goals;
  2. Manage change efforts that encourage and engage staff at all levels in the improvement process and
  3. Help constructively shape the organization's culture.

Learning & Development Operational Management

  • Directly manage the academic year catalog offerings for in-person workshops, team facilitation request process, and coaching program in consultation with the Director.
  • Oversee the delivery and management of the in-person learning and development programs.
  • Oversee customer support to include the user experience when calling, emailing, or attending a program in person or via Zoom with Learning & Development.
  • Attend assigned departmental meetings, HR meetings and other meetings as assigned by the Director. Partner with other Professionals with in the university and system office.

  • Effectively recruit, supervise, and retain highly skilled, highly motivated, and customer-focused personnel. Ensure that the Learning & Development strategic vision is effectively communicated to impact the accomplishment of their roles.
  • Assure the continued development and strengthening of the Learning & Development Staff through deliberate constructive evaluation, performance monitoring, coaching, mentoring, and professional development.
