Job Summary
The R&D Engineer position will work in the R&D group of SEM business unit in Mchenry, IL. The R&D Engineer is responsible for designing and conducting experiments toward the development or improvement of custom polymer compounds. Responsible for developing a testing plan, and procedure, data analysis, and communication of results.

Essential Functions
* Develop with guidance, products adhering to customer specifications, quality, and operational goals and standards.
* Lead alternative raw material evaluation, testing and approval for new and existing products.
* Lead pre-colored polymer compound development.
* Actively participates in materials testing to facilitate scale up to production.
* Contributes to product platform development through application of statistical experimental design, product testing, and data analysis.
* Supports marketing and sales through development of product and application data.
* Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
* Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science or Material Engineering.
* Experience in polymer industry is preferred.
* Knowledge of polymer chemistry or polymer engineering is preferred.

* Excellent communication skills.
* Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
* Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Powerpoint.

The base salary for this position is $75,000 - $93,000 with incentive bonus potential. Final compensation within this range may vary based on factors including but not limited to background, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location of the position.
